That would be AWESOME! Sent her a PM to check, our eldest son knows how big a deal this is so he is looking into time off and Rosie was bowled over that I was talking to THE Dennis Manner!
Seeing that Mr. Manner is going to this event, it would be nice if someone asked him what if any changes he did to his 72 Stage 1 when having the engine rebuilt? Also wondering if he still has it.. Might even help with some insight to rhammers "Ray K" question about a stock 70 455 to a 72 Stage 1..
I'm pretty sure that the engine in Denny's 72 Stage 1 is pretty much stock. I do know that it has Stage 1 valve springs and a GM Stage 1 cam.
Does it have 1970 spec pistons? What is a GM Stage 1 cam? OEM or one ground to match like TA performance has?
Denny built the engine himself so I am not sure what pistons he used and I do not remember what he told me however I do know the cam is/was NOS GM since the cam came from me with the identifying groove and the part number stamped on it.
I am down the street at the Clarion, but will most surely visit you ruffians in the evening parking lot get togethers.
Fritz my man. thanks for everything. We are staying at the Red Roof Inn. Still rooms available. And they accept Dogs. Bringing my new puppy and look alike to your dog.
Ahhhhhh shoot! When our eldest son heard my story about Mr.Manner calling & my name included in the blocks history (my 5 seconds maybe lol of “fame”) he offered to drive me in his new gas/electric contraption (hope he has a LOT of extension cords!!!) I agreed but we can’t risk Rosie annihilating our room while at dinner or something (she can be quite the beast when she wants too! lol) I have GOT to see your puppy though! That is great man, they help a LOT with some common things we deal with. Very happy to hear all is well brother
Denny will have the motor on display as well as a display board with photos etc. He is also putting together a 3-ring binder “book” that will have more information, including the March 1970 Hot Rod article plus the timeline that we pieced together from multiple sources. I am sending that out to him today. Duane
Denny will be at the track with the motor displayed and another Buick Engineer, Larry Lyons, will have his restored 70 Saturn Yellow GSX there as well. I don't know if Denny is scheduling a talk or if he will just be there to answer questions. I will not be there this year so other people will have to chime in about that. Duane
Got to meet Denny and he was gracious to us ,talked Buick stuff and signed my vintage magazine with him on the cover! Such a cool guy and a wealth of knowledge. Having such a great time here at the Nats✌️
Denny was great - I'd never met him before and it was a thrill to do so. He was gracious, explained a lot (for probably the 1000th time) and happily answered questions. Said some of the rare/prototype parts on display (incl. an aluminum Stage 1 head) showed up at the event from guys who had them in their stash.
