Just picked up another GS, a 72 GS 455 Ragtop. It's a mess but worth the work to fix. It's an early build (8C) serial number is in the very low 2000's. High option car, (cruise, tilt, consolette, pw etc.) anyway I got the sloan info yesterday and it's marked as "demonstrator" I know kind of what that means. Did dealer's order a showroom car as a demonstrator or were they GM corprate? I'll be posting pictures later today.
I've read that it's been both ways - Either a dealer ordered it to generate sales -OR- An executive ordered it to the gills. Maybe it's cheaper to order a DEMO vehicle - that's why the the executives did it this way? o No: Can't wait for the pictures :TU:
Maybe the demos were built with a little more attention to details as they came down the line? Mopars had a category -- 'show car' that must have been a message to the line guys to do it right. My Skylark was put together pretty well though.
Neat car... Sorta looks like Bittersweet Mist, but that was a 71 only color. uzzled: Or could an exec. get what he wanted???? Hummm.uzzled:
It has the old style NY plates that I think were replaced in the early 1980's.. when was that car last on the road?
It's been a while since it's been on the road, I think the late 80's is when those plates went out. I found a recipt in the car dated 89. It's Burnished Copper (63) with Black top and white interior, the white is pearl white not the 72 white. Must be a 71 left over interior.
FoMoCo "noted" Demonstrators for Warranty reasons, and I think there was a break on the price to the Dealer. With the way things are now, they are using the name "Executive" vehicles, whether it be an Exec. names Hertz, Enterprise, or what ever.
