It bugs me a lot when people put "its your car" as a response to these types of questions, because the truth is I'm pretty sure every member has established that, and the reason that they are asking is apparently because they are having some sort of dilemna or doubt.
You can throw anything in it, apparently even a truck engine and call it a "GSX Clone", but that doesn't mean people are gonna like it, not that you should care, but that's just the truth...and we know that.
As for my opinion, a Buick deserves a Buick motor.

Nice how you took a jab then dropped the "daddy's cash" comment, then run back to "back on topic". Not so much as an apology? That was low. That goes for your "truck engine" comment too, Adrian.

Great way to trash the new guy's thread, folks. Sheesh.

Buick46270 even describes his engine as a truck engine in his sig.
Sorry if it was taken as a low blow, it wasn't supposed to be it was supposed to make a point in that you can call it whatever you want. Although I do believe most members will agree with me as to the validity of that combonation.
Also, my post was on point with what the OP was asking for, it was my opinion as to which engine should be put into his car.

Speedtigger, put in what you can afford to run and get it on the road and have fun.
Most Buick folks like to see buick engines, but would rather see it running than sitting and rotting.

Well, that was interesting LOL. When I started this thread, I assumed most of the abuse would be aimed at me! No worries. I love the passion.

I think you should put a hybrid prius engine in it.

Let us know what you come up with. I'm saving up for my own car.

I have the 4 door 72. I'd like a 2 door. The "others" listed are pieces and parts that Tyler sells from.

Nothing wrong with a LS1 swap. If the purists don't approve because they think it's a "Chevrolet", put an LS4 in. LS4s were available in the Buick Lacrosse Super. The LS series engines are phenomenal. You can't compare them to the Buick 455. You can run a carb or fuel injection setup on the LS. Oddly enough the carb setup uses a ford distributor. The fuel injected LS can make a ton of power while knocking down impressive gas mileage.

Again, you can't compare the two engines. The LS is a precision machined engine. Gaskets are foolproof because of the precision tolerances. Parts are plentiful and swapping only stock parts can still net you performance gains. I.E. swap the heads from a AFM motor or Displacement on Demand motor onto a stock motor for a few horses. Most heads are aluminum. Aluminum blocks are available but not necessary. It's fuel injected! They make you feel like your in a sports car, not a 6k lbs truck! When equipped with electric fans, they are ridiculously quiet and take no time to warm up during the coldest days. The LS heads on the AFM/DOD motors flow better stock than a Buick head ever will, even with days of porting. Its just a better design, as it should be. It has thirty years of development over the Buick.

I work on the LS motors at work. The only major work I've done is two water pumps and a piston assembly. The water pumps weren't bad, the gasket was, so while I was in there I replaced them. The Piston assembly was because a connecting rod bent due to the engine backfiring while running on propane. (We run some of the engines on dedicated propane, cng or bi-fuel) GM warrantied the piston and connecting rod, talk about standing behind your product. The connecting rods have to be replaced as they are not a serviceable item. The connecting rod is made as one piece and is cracked into two. This ensures a better fit and cannot be serviced without replacement.

Put an LS motor in it. A BBB is bitchin but you can make good power and get great gas milage with an LS.

Do not kill me for saying this, but the GM changed motors for a reason.

Don't forget the cost of the wiring to run the coil packs with the carb. Isn't it like $1K?

If you want a Buick motor that gets good mileage, why not a turbo motor? The blocks are extremely easy to come by. It's just all the stuff that goes on them is a little rare. I think the GSCA had a complete 87 GN motor for sale for $1500 a little while back.

BTW...the 455 in my Skylark is about what you described. It's all iron except for the headers. I am using the TA-212, stock 76 Q-jet and an HEI. Heads are converted to Stage 1 and I have .030 over 10:1 forged pistons. My rear gear is a 3.42 and I use a TH-350. Mileage isn't horrible. I always tell people that it gets 11 mpg but its better than that, I just don't know how much better. The car ran a 12.77@102 in BG in 08 on 275/60-15 MT drag radials at 32 psi. The car was running out of fuel on the big end. It would've run faster than that I believe since my 60' was 1.61.

I'm going to suggest something a little different... which I've commented on before in other threads

If the survivor car is a pristine low mile car, as described in post #1, then leave the original drivetrain in it. Otherwise, find a different not-so-pristine or non-original car and add the LS.
