Does anyone have a wiring diagram for delay wipers for an early 70's full size Buick? I found a '74 or '75 Buick in the bone yard with the same style switch as my '73 so I grabbed the switch and motor thinking my wiring diagram would help me get it working. Unfortunately Buick didn't offer delay wipers in 73. They offered a "demand" wipe which is a button on the shift lever. But nothing helpful. The switch and motor fit fine, but I need help with the wiring. Thanks, John

The 74-76 delay wiper systems use an additional wiring harness from the wiper switch to the motor. It also has an orange wire that plugs into the fuse block. Other big GM cars from the same era might also use that extra harness.

Hi James, I just got rid of the parts car yesterday. It was a 72 and the delay wipers were first offered in 74. If you want to add them, you'll need the delay wiper switch from a 74 big Buick and the wiper/washer/harness from a 74-76 big GM car with delay wipers. Does it rain much down there? Carl
Well, When/If it does rain around here, it either pours down in Biblical proportions (3 inches in 2 hours last Friday night :eek2: ) or it mists just enough to get everything damp and dirty (All day long last Saturday ) I'll add '74 and laters to my wrecking-yard list, Thanks for the info! :beer
to help you spot the correct wiper switch for a 74... on a 74 delay wiper switch, the washer button is on the right. on a 74 non-delay switch, the washer button is on the left www.buickfarm.com has them new for about 40 bux.
And the majority of the 74 delay wiper switches had the chrome peeling off the washer button and the paint over the lettering coming off. When you get the delay switch, don't forget the jumper harness.

get the wiper/washer assembly. The delay wipers use a different washer pump too. Before you connect the delay wipers to the linkage in your Lesabre, turn them on, then off. That way you know the wiper is in the 'Park' position.
Success!! Thanks to the help from this board I upgraded to intermittant wipers. :laugh: Here's the story: Flunked my state inspection because the windsheild washers didn't work. Talk about picky :rant: The wipers worked fine, but the washers weren't working. Well I'd been planning to upgrade to delay wipers, no I've got an excuse :TU: I study the wiring diagrams, install the new wiper motor, make my own wiring harness for the delay section, cut the dash up for the new switch. Yup, the delay switch is physically larger than the non-delay. Out came the key hole saw (I really hate cutting my car). I get everything in loosely and check it's functioning. It all works (including the washers once I filled the reservoir and primed the hoses.) Except the delay wipers don't delay. They wipe pause for half a second and wipe again. Same response all the way up the delay scale. Damn. :ball: I cleaned all the contacts, double checked all the connections and still no love. o No: At this time I was running out of daylight and enthusiasm. Button the system together and call it a day. After all I now have working washers and wipers. I can tackle the delay another time. The next day I went off to get re-inspected. We go through the whole routine, including the things tested the first time. "Wipers" and I flip the switch. They wipe once and stop uzzled: just when I'm about to start stringing together four letter words they wipe again and pause. p Yup, the car repair fairies visited my car during the night and got everything working perfectly. Long delay at the bottom of the scale, brief at the top and a nice range of pauses in between. :beer Sometimes I feel it takes my car a little time to figure out how a new feature is supposed to work after it's installed. Once it figures it out it begins working. Now I'm driving around on sunny days washing my windshield for now good reason and looking forward to a drizzle day to use the delay. You gotta cheer the little victories when you get them. John
