    Hi, well I brought the spare heads to the machinist because of some corrosion around the end waterjacket slot, figured he could take a couple thousands off to clean it up. He poked around and said about .010 - .015 would do it but it might take more.
    Question is,,, how much is too much before;
    1) I have to worry about valve/piston interference, new cam is 464 lift/ 262 duration.

    2) The way I see it, as you deck the heads or the block the intake runners move closer together making a mismatch between the intake and the heads.

    Is there extra thick head gaskets available to help take up some of this. I figure if it is only .01 no sweat but I would like to give this guy a number to stop at.

    Thanx,
    Lou

    Lou use Felpro -- perma-torque gaskets they are quite a bit thicker than the factory steal shim.
    I will try to find my spare set and get some more info for you.

    Thanx John,
    Have you decked your heads? if so how much and what did you do, make it up with the thicker gaskets or go with the standard?

    Do you (or any one else) have the specs for the stock factory dual quad cam lift and duration.
    Thanx for your help,
    Lou

    Lou, you can take as much as you want off the heads. just have them take off the same amount on the intake side. If you go more than .020 check the lifter pre load. if it's more than .040 get some adjustable pushrods. My heads have been cut .045 and have 5000 trouble free miles from them.
