I have a 69 GS stage 1 convertible its non-AC. I purchased this car many years ago and it was in many boxes bins and partially assembled. I am progressing thru it and am trying to make sure I use correct restored parts. The O1E build date, on the trim tag indicates the 5th week of January. I am not certain of the required part number or how much before is considered correct for an alternator. I have a 1100781 that is a code 8M6 it's a 37Amp. If I interpret the Alternator code correctly that's December 6th of 1968. I also have a 1100774 55amp 9A22 I interpret that as January 22, 1969 . Thanks for any help. Tony
I think both date codes would be acceptable. I would be more concerned with using the correct part number for your application.
Popular parts that every car got would be much closer to the build date & 01E is the body date. The car may or may not have been assembled that week. I'd use the later one. I'm not familiar w/'69 but in '70 all Stage 1's came w/the 55A. So as noted above, correct part # trumps the date code. My 350 4-sp. came to me apart & w/almost nothing (does have the original engine fwiw) so in collecting everything I've just worried w/getting the correct parts. I couldn't go as far as correctly date coded.
I have a very original numbers matching 70 GS455 trim tag date 04B Original Alternator 1100774 0 D 1 Starter 1108392 9 K 3 Hope it helps
Tony my 69 convertible was built same week as yours. The alternator was Jan 24. 55a had the had cooling option.
Guys , Thank you all for your input. It appears to me that I should go with the, 1100774 55amp 9A22 I interpret that as January 22, 1969. Dave, thanks based on your 69 very close to my manufacture, date wise that is probably as close as I can get, and it may be the original to the car. Tony
