I've read a couple of threads about dash/firewall insulation (most of them being about how frigging hard it is to get it into place) and I'm just curious if this is the kind of insulation that's being referred to.

I haven't gotten round getting it out of the car yet (need to get a vacuum cleaner first) but it seems as if it should be possible to get a replacement part for this even in Sweden.

If not; do you guys have any links to reliable shops that would be able to ship worldwide?

Nope. I don't know of any resellers in the States and buying it myself from the States is going to be my last option.

I'd prefer to buy it here in Sweden.

    Is it rotten?

Hi Martin, Unless you are restoring the car I would avoid removing the insulation unless you must.

Are you looking for the leak you mentioned a while back?

    Hi Bert.

No, the leak is most likely coming from a very shoddy installation of the front windshield.

The reason for removing the insulation is mostly because it's in the way when I work on the dash. Seeing that it came apart just by touching it I figured I might as well replace it.

I won't replace it if you say that I shouldn't as long as I can get to all the cables and connections without removing it.

I was planning on cleaning up behind the dash and the instrument cluster while I was at it (and in the process replace the installation) but perhaps that's unnecessary unless I do a full restoration?

I'm guessing there's lacking insulation at places as well as the interior in general isn't all that great. I haven't checked yet though.

www.opgi.com or www.ss396.com Use the same stuff as for Chevelles. Buy extra black plastic pins for the firewall cover as you will break some. Lube them first.

    Thanks for the links Jim

The gist of the threads I read about this was the things you mention so I'm not exactly looking forward to the job. Then again, I can't even touch the stuff now without it coming apart in my hands so I guess I'm going to have to replace some of it.
