So the under dash harness has a couple problems. The fuse block fuse contacts are rusty and corroded, and one corner of the block is broken. There is a 3/4" bare wire going into the ignition switch connector, not sure what caused it but it isn't melted, just stripped out from terminal back.
Overall, the harness seems flexible, however it is 45 years old too, and I don't want a fire.

I have a new factory style engine wiring harness and a new factory style rear light harness. I have a couple front lighting harnesses that are in fair to good condition, and I plan on adding relays to the headlights and possibly electric fan if I go that way. The ribbon cables going thru interior are in good condition and I will re-use them. The two front power window harnesses are crap and I will replace them with new. So I am at the point of deciding what to do with the dash harness/fuse block harness. This of course is the most complex having all the factory dash bulbs and idiot lights.

I don't care if the fuse block uses old glass fuses or new blade style fuses, but I want it to have the proper harness plugs on the engine bay side to plug into.

Looking at wiringharness.com, the cost is $477 for a replacement factory style harness. That is kinda spendy.

Looking at Painless wiring, they have a bunch of different harness setups. I don't mind doing some soldering and wiring, but I do want the factory harness plugs for the engine compartment and want the proper ends for all the stuff up in the dash.

What have people done to make this work? I don't want a fire on this car, but I don't enjoy spending $477 for the harness either.

Give me some ideas and opinions on what you guys have done.

    Thanks

I have been pondering this same thing as well for my 67 as well Jon. My old harness was in decent shape until previous owner hacked into it all over and I found a few melted wires. I had been looking at aftermarket options as well until I saw this post the other day.

I decided to go for the factory harness after all. Good luck.

I enjoyed your pics of your car in the garage section btw.
