    Sealant on cyl head gaskets?

I am getting ready to put my cylinder heads back on my 425 nailhead. I recently got a new pair of good quality head gaskets. Are these supposed to be installed with a sealant and if so- what kind?

    Hey everyone:

I posted earlier and wonder if anyone can help with a minor technical question. I am putting the heads on my 425 nailhead today. I recently purchased a good set of gaskets and need to know: Do you need to use a sealant on head gaskets-and if so, what kind?

I've Replaced Many Head Gaskets And Never Used Any Sealant. Very Important To Have The Threads Clean On The Block And Make Sure The Head Bolts Are In Good Shape, Otherwise Replace Them.

Depends on the type of gasket. Steel shim gaskets should get a coat of Permatex Copper Spray Gasket. Composite gaskets need no sealant.
