Custom Console Lid - Thoughts?

Should I use the bottom or the back of an old seat cover for a console lid?

  1. Bottom, no seam. People might think it's a bench seat.

  2. Back, looks classier with more detailing.

I have this black padded box that a gift bottle came in. It is sturdy wood construction with a nice black vinyl covering. My 4-speed car doesn't have either shorty console and an open spot between the seats.

The black padded box fits between the seats nicely but the lid is long gone and only slid into place anyway.

My idea is to take my old, ratty 71 deluxe seat cover and use it to upholster a lid that matches my newer Legendary seats!

I'm not much of an upholsterer but I've got time, spare wood, staples and some extra mattress topper memory foam padding laying around.

Here's a pic of the box sitting between the seats back when I was starting my steering wheel endeavors.

Here's the seat covers in question. I sold the best one to a board member. The other one is rougher than it looks. The welting is wearing through, vinyl is cracking and stitching is coming loose in places.

My question is, would it look better if the lid matched the bottom or the back of the seat?

Not sure on the survey, but I feel optimistic that you will make something that looks good.
