Very happy with this unit, after I gave them all the dims they custom made it an exact fit for my dash. Looks old school but modern electronics and has a bluetooth dongle so I can stream right to it from my phone. Sounds great too. Heres a pic, I also redid my woodgrain with woodgrain tape and painstakingly trimmed it with a razor. I thought
the radio was a steal at $189 shipped

I'm happy with mine as well. (Re: Custom autosound radio)

Dear Detrailers, Drachen, and V-8 Buick audiophiles,

Glad you like your Custom Autosound stereo! :) I've had one for a while and I really enjoy the nice sound. My only complaint is that I haven't figured out how to get it to start playing the music when it reconnects to my smartphone.

If you like you could do a few more "mods" on the stereo like add the Buick lettering on the radio buttons. Here is the thread where I describe how I did that:

As far as I know only the Custom Autosound 630 stereo will work with the Bluetooth adapter.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

I bought one for my wife's Z/28. Got it installed. I just need to wire it.

Any radio with the RCA inputs will work with the adapter.its amazing how good it sounds using it!

The only gripe I have with it, and I havent checked if there is a setting to change it, is how BRIGHT the green display is at night...almost blinding

Which Bluetooth adapter? (Re: Custom autosound radio)

Dear Jerry, Detrailers, and V-8 Buick audiophiles,

Which Bluetooth adapter are you using? If you used the Custom Autosound Bluetooth Interface kit, then you can use the stereo buttons to control some things like skipping to the next track:

However, it connects in place of the CD-changer (or in addition to.)

Jim, when you get it installed let me know how lit fits. I don't want to do any trimming on my '65s dash to get a radio to fit. The old AM Radio doesn't pick up anything. Tanks Man. :TU:

Ours fit well. I did trim the dash opening because I wanted the radio to extend out just a bit farther.

OP stated his was $189 shipped, but the price on-line for the 630 is $249.95.

Is there a code to use for a discount?

Ill find the link for mine, the reseller I bought from only had the Rockford Fosgate BT interface...i dont think you can control the phone from the head unit but then again it was half the price..

Does a Custom Autosound fit in a 1965? /(Re: Custom autosound radio)

Dear Jim, Ponch, Jerry, Jim M, Detrailers, and V-8 Buick audiophiles, . . .

    Does *THIS* answer your question!!

Yes it is a Custom Autosound 630 stereo. However, it has undergone a few "mods." . . . . They are described here:

    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?268438-FYI-Custom-Autosound-mods-for-improved-authenticity

The biggest improvement is to add the 1965 Buick lettering on the radio buttons and that's really easy if you use the template that can send you.

Nonetheless, you can use original knobs and as you can see the fit is very reasonable. It really looks like Buick could have used them in 1965!

I went with the Custom Autosound 630 because the whole concept was new back 2013. You might save a significant chunk of money by settling on the 230 instead. Indeed, you don't need to use the Custom Autosound Bluetooth adapter if you don't want the additional control that will save you a little more. As far as I know the 230 has the same appearance, so it will look as good in your car as the 630.

So some musical food for thought so to speak!

    Cheers, Edouard :beer

P.S. No the A/C vent mods don't come with the stereo, but I can give you some hints on how to do those as well! :Brow:

The install went good and the radio sounds good. I bought a speaker too, that seems to be for a 66 not a 65 but we made it work anyway. They sent an oval and the 65's are round.

Glad it went well! (Re: Custom autosound radio)

    Dear Jim and V-8 Buick audiophiles . . .

Glad your installation was successful! :TU: I also had problems with the speaker Custom Autosound sold me back in the mid-90s. It appeared to have been for a 1964 when my wagon is a 1965. On the last round I gave up on the dash speakers in favor of kick-panel speakers, so I don't know what is the status of current fit.

    Enjoy da' tunes! . . . .

    Cheers, Edouard :beer
