CS130 one wire alternator conversion questions??

I purchased a CS130 105amp "one wire" hook up alternator.

I want to put it on a 1972 GS that currently runs a stock alternator.

The instructions say to just hook up one from the alternator post to battery.

I am confused because of the other posts I have read show jumping/splicing the brown with blue wire and white with red wire that goes to the external regulator.

If I splice the brown with blue wire, and the white with red wire, can I use the existing factory wire that went to the original charging stud on the original alternator? Do I need to run a new wire direct to starter or battery?

Do I have to splice at all? Can I just unplug my external regulator and run a wire to the battery? Can I just unplug the external regulator, hook up the original charging wire to the alternator, and be ok?

What should I do to correctly wire in this "one wire" alternator?

Thanks. That is one of the links I found before with this info:
"The wiring is quite simple and makes use of the wires already in place. The external voltage reg. is removed entirely from the circuit. You are then left with 4 wires originally connected to the volt reg. F,2,3,4 (note which is which with a marker or tape.) Do the following:

    1. Cut the connectors off each wire, no longer needed.
    2. White wire (2) is no longer needed. Other end at alt.
    3. Red wire (3) can be taped.
    4. Blue wire (F) and dark brown (4) should be soldered or
spliced together. This is the exciter to turn the alt. on."

What confuses me is that the instructions that came with the alternator say just hook up a single wire from the new alt to battery and you're done.

I guess there is no harm in unplugging the external regulator, hooking up the single existing charge wire to the alt, and see what happens.

That link to Leitrim limited is useful. Nice conversion kit if I need to use one. Thanks.

If its a true one wire alt then no need to do anything with the voltage reg just unplug it and thats it

Ok, unplugged external regulator, hooked up original charge wire, nothing else hooked up, it seems to be charging ok. I am doing some other work on the car, but once finished, will monitor for proper charging. I will also make sure the original charge wire is not getting too hot and I don't need to go to a bigger gauge.

The original red wire doesn't need to used either the fuse block is powered by the heavy wires that come from the starter. Only wire that should be hooked to the alternator goes to the Battery. Im running a one wire cs144 and thats how mine is works like a champ
