im planning on putting a 200r4 in my regal and i was wandering what gear to put in it. the catch is that its gotta be good for a 305 chevy and a 350 buick cause i only want to do this once. ive thought of going with 3.73 but i think that may be to steep for the buick, ive also thought of 3.42 but think thats too low for the chevy. suggestions welcome

3:55s were picked by hotrod years back as the best for street/strip.

You will reduce the engine RPM's by 30% or more while in overdrive with the converter locked up on the highway. A 3.73 becomes equal to a 2.61 rearend ratio at the 30% reduction rate. You could probably run a set of 4.11 rear gears and still do OK on the highway in overdrive, but the rearend will run hotter and make more noise at highway speeds. Be alot of fun off the line though, especially with the 200-R4 trans. Just make sure it is built to take the punishment. A stock 200-R4 won't take too much abuse behind a built V8.
