There is so much out there to pick from it makes my head spin. I found this 9 inch rear and they say it will fit my Regal. Is what they are offering for this price the going rate? This package doesn't appear to include any gears so how much should I expect to pay for them? Just looking for some feedback as to whats being offered.

I have a friend who purchased a similar setup for his 79 malibu and it was about the same price. i think you could get the gears and posi for less than $600 try www.ringpinion.com i have bought setups for my 8.2 bop and they were the cheapest i can fine. it looks like you may need to get breaks as well for an additional 300

I ran 9" rears in all my Fords. You cannot find any tougher rear thats as light . My DANA comes to mind. My Dana set up for a GM with gearsm axles abd bo brakes was almost 2K and that was bought in the 90's. That said you could call one of the better jknown shops that make their own housings and price a GN style rear . Try Currie Enterprises. Strange Engineering makes a very nice aluminum center section. ALso check into places that sell used racing parts like Racing Junk you never know what you'll find. As always events are agood place to find parts also just walk around the pits and you ca fnd just about anything.

What are your plans for the car? Seems like alot of money for a street build.
II am trying to get these 8.5 custom rears off the ground just need someone to custom build upper control arms. I am using the 1973-1973 housing which should keep the price down. The rear will be direct bolt in except for the uppers. Jim

But I have the 3.42 3.64 rear 10 bolt 8.2 gear delema i am dealing with and regular builds etc. So Time is a killer for me right now being spring and everyone wants a rear in the car. I am sure in the summer when things taper off i will have some tinker time. Jim

Mostly street driven but I don't have a light foot at times. I'd like a strong rear so when I step on it I won't have to worry about exploding the rear end. Its a gutted out Regal w a mild 455. I just can't see rolling the dice paying $800 for a used 8.5 GN rear with over 120k on it. If I'm going that deep on something used I think I'll be money ahead in the long run going new. Some guys get lucky on used stuff but I'm not one of them.

If you wanted a sturdy rear to replace the stock 7.5 what do you guys think is the best bang for the buck?

If it was me I would go with the 8.5 GN type rearend. Everything bolts right up (no fabrication) and parts are available in case you break something. If you go the 8.5 route be sure and buy the driveshaft also as its a shorter driveshaft than the 7.5 one. Just my two cents worth.

Ok, what should I expect to pay for a new complete repro ie ( Currie, Moser, etc ) 8.5 GN type posi rear?
