Can someone give me a solution to get the keyway out of a crankshaft to remove toking chain. Also how much slop is acceptable for the timing chain? Thanks Frank Merry Christmas

Why do you need to remove the keyway ???? The gear will slide on the keyway or unbolt the cam gear and you can remove the chain. Keyway stays .

Your gonna hafta catch the edge with a nice sharp small chisel and try to push it back and up to get it out. If it lifts in the front a sharp pick should finish lifting it out. CLEAN both real well before re-assembly. PICS are 20 year old chain, kinda worn but Id consider serviceable and the bottom pic is a new replacement. ws

Thank you GSX. Bill thank you too. In the picture of the new chain, is the chain evenly slack on both sides?

No, the ratchet is twisting the crank bolt just enough to take the slack. The timing marks havent moved as of that frame (yellow dots). Typically, the chains and gears wear about the same. If theres chain marks on the gear teeth, theres that much wear on the chain too. Cut all that slack by 1/2 transferred to the cam gear. If it gets way too loose, itll slap the timing chest and rub a hole through it. Thats a longggg way to go! ws
