I have had this cam and lifters for a long time. I am thinking about using it in a 455 rebuild but cannot find very little info on cam. Any thoughts or info appreciated. Is this grind similar to the TA212 ?
    Thanks

Call crane to get the specs based on those numbers

hi intensity. 216-228@.050. 266-278 advertised. 456-480 lift. 112 lsa. with 1.6 rockers. almost the same as the ta-212

Is Crane still around somewhere? I thought they sold out some stuff and closed the doors years ago...

Post pics of the lifters, I’m just curious what they look like being their “NOS Crane” lifters.

David Vizard talked about them... said 'Anti pump-up' means they have higher tolerances which bleed down. Can limit full lift and especially affects the closing rate of the valve.

I have a Crower with almost identical specs in a 9:1 stock valve 455 and it runs great. I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
    Thanks

Maybe they have. I don't know, o have used the Rhoads anti pump up.....yest the would bleed down and slower rpm to give a slightly better idle but as tom came up there was less time to bleed off effective making the cam closer to advertised size.........they worked well and I still have them with my Poston gs 110 cam

That's a pretty tame cam......can't be much over stk lift with a touch more duration... 112 lobe separation with 3* advance built in........

stock 390 lift intake and 455 exhaust on 117 lsa 114cl something like 196-226 duration @ 50. i would say a lot better cam then stock more average duration way more intake lift on a way better 112 lsa. my guess is Buick had to keep a smooth running engine and high vacuum with the 117 lsa. and then trying to make up some power with the extra exhaust duration and lift.

This came is no overlap at .050. And a max rpm range of 4500........this cam will have no i ssue idling at 650 and running power brakes, it is better than stk but it will make more sound than actual hp difference.

Maybe I just like.more cam than others.....but I would flat overlook this by specs.

But yes it's better than stk and maybe it's enough for a very mild build

yes for more power you need a bigger cam. the crane does have 11* more average duration than stock that's like going up almost 2 cam sizes. found this post.

Thanks for all the reply's and info. The cam might be adequate for what my intensions are for this street driven rebuild. Interesting info on the lifters.
Here's a couple of pics as requested.

That cam’s a little small for a 455 unless you have under 3.08 rear gears.
Especially with a 455 run all the valve lift you can for a given advertised duration.

One of the issues that led to Crane’s demise is their lack to modernize their camshaft technology. They kept turning out dated twin-pattern grinds that mimicked old Chevy grinds. They did make some great parts, but their cams were not one of them in the last 25 years. All of the other companies somewhat took off without them.

I ran that cam from the mid 80's to early 90's. 118 was much better.
