This is for a buddies '72 Cutlass. I know it's not a Buick, but I know this is where to come for answers. He is replacing carpet & door panels. The door panels are out and the back seat has gone back in. Front seats are out. Console is out. This is a convertible. The new carpet is in. Problem is courtesy lights stay on all the time. He has checked the headlight switch (even removed it), door switches and still they stay on, all of them, and they are bright. Could there be a pinched wire somewhere causing a ground and thereby causing them to stay on? Any ideas on how to track this down? He is on the verge of taking the new carpet back out. Thanks Rick
might have pinched a wire when reinstalling some trim or somethin .. would probably be a white wire with an orange wire ... anytime the white gets grounded, the lights come on.... if you orange got grounded you would be blowin fuses.. seat brackets are good culprits... the door threshold moulding is another good spot to check .. but i bet if you remove the back seat bottom ... you may find your problem.
Can't explain it because it was a bit of a hit & miss for me too. The underdash courtesy bulb on the pass. had created a path around the door switch. Probably more socket related, I'm not sure. Changed the two sockets, installed new lamps & works fine now.
