My 72 GS needed a complete rear clip to make it right. I purchased a 70 coupe planning to cut and fit to restore the 72. Am I thinking right? Is it this simple? Will all the convertible assembly simply bolt on? At the rear window bottom of the coupe match the convertible cut line? Any help or suggestions would be appriciated.

Yikes, what you are thinking will not work!
The coupe and conv are not even close for the rear clip.
You should consider finding another conv and making one
    car out of two.

    thinking

When purchasing replacement quarters it say "will fit convertible with modifications". Are the sail panels that different?

    Don't.

The widsheild are even different from coupe to convertible. The top won't even fit correctly, because the hardtop windsheild is taller and the top 'scissors' won't extend all the way

    frames are different

    rear quarter windows are different

interior is different for the rear seats- you have piston panels and a shorter rear seat in a convertible

Don't waste your time, effort, money and your GS trying to make it a convertible

    Just find a convertible

When even the windsheilds are different from convertible to coupe, it tells me "Don't even think about it"

It's not just the sail panels, it's the coutour leading to them as well. One more difference coupe to convertible :)

    where to find one

any hints on an inexpensive doner? If not my 72 gs convertible will be parted and sold.

Keep searching Ebay and here, you can get a decent conv parts car for $1500-2500.
