I just got one from the parts store and the top copper end with the bulb that gets strapped to the aluminum hose is approx 24" long. The original is only six to eight inches long. Classic Auto Air shows the same thing in their ad. Does anyone know if NAPA or anyone else has the correct length? Thanks for any help.
No one makes the correct one. They all have the bogus looking Tennessee still looking long copper coil. Try a junkyard.
Used is a good option. You can test the valve by blowing through it and placing the valve alternately in ice water and warm water. The valve will open as the temperature of the bulb increases. Used TXVs are most often good as long as the sensing tube isn't kinked/damaged and there's no visible corrosion in the valve.
You can tell if they are now good after they are installed by if the aluminum loop coming out of the AC box gets covered with frost when it is running. This is indication it is shot. This is why I had AC in old cars. Too much trouble when it seldom gets used.
