Anybody have a NOS clutch return spring for a 70 that can verify the original finish? These were the same for A bodies regardless of engine size from 68-70.

While we are at it sometime in the past we discussed the finish on head light retaining springs. I thought someone posted a pic of NOS springs and I remember them being mag phosphate coated Does anyone recall?

    Jim,

I am fairly confident that you are correct that the spring should be black or gray phosphate. If I remember mine were all this way unless replaced. I don't think G.M. would have spent the extra for zinc plating.

I cannot find a spec of the zinc color finish on this spring.. They turn rusty like the headlamp retaining springs and hood hinges that were phosphate.

Jim- Where does your clutch spring attach to on the frame and fork? The assembly manual shows a hole in the fork where its supposed to attach, but no such hole exists on my fork. I took a look at Jim S. GSX and saw where he had his attached to the frame. Where are your attachment points?

While we are still on the spring. I purchased a spring from either OPG or SS396.com but I think it is wrong. The one I purchased is a lot smaller than the one I took off. Does anyone have the size of the spring (length and diameter) and a photo?
