    Gentlemen,

I have 70 GS 455 4 speed No A/C, Alternator code VA on build sheet. The car has SF radiator for a 455 manual transmission which would be standard cooling which is correct for 455 manual trans less GSX and 350-2 + 4 barrel carb with manual trans less GSX with No A/C. The car also has a single alt belt and water pump pulley, belt code SD. Which is the correct alternator 1100761 or 1100774? I can't find it in the assembly manual under series 43000,44000. In section 46000 it show 1100761 as standard alt and 1100774 with rear window defroster only with single pulleys or dual pulley with heavy duty cooling, don't know if its the same as 43000 +44000.

    Thanks,
    Ron

A 1970 GS Stage 1 came standard with HD cooling as part of Stage 1 option. thus will have 774 alternator with dual belt fan pulley even on a non AC 70 GS Stage 1.

A 1970 GS 455 not ordered with AC, will have standard alternator, with single fan pulley and standard 4 blade fan with no clutch.

What is the part # and date stamped into your alternator?

    Rich,
the car doesn't have the original alternator on it or fan blade, so I don't have anyway to use them as a reference. The Alternator on the car is a replacement 37amp . I believe this is what should be on the car, but there been some discussion about it being a 774 if it had heavy duty cooling, which it doesn't, it has standard cooling (SF with No A/C) and there was discussion it should have a 55amp with rear window defroster with a dual pulley which it don't. In the section 46000 of the assembly it shows a 774 signal pulley alternator with a (SD) belt code for rear window defroster. In the assembly manual under 44000 it doesn't say anything about what I just stated in that section at least not in my manual I have, but in section 46000 it states that alternator 1100761 is a standard alt, signal pulley with (SD) belt code for 46000 which is not a GS A-body. On my build sheet it has code (VA) for the Alternator which I found under the rear seat just recently. In all the research and discussion with the help of people on the site. I am 95% sure that Alternator code (VA) is a 1100761 37amp for a 1970 GS 455 4speed with No A/C with Standard cooling (SF) with out Rear window Defroster and Belt code (SD).
Rich thank you for responding! Please let me know what you think!

    If you have a 1100761 date code 0A or 0B I am interested.:Dou:

    Thanks again for your time!:TU:

    Rich,
I appreciate your time and looking for the alternator but I need a 1100761 0A or 0B 37Amp.

    Thank You!
