HI guys, My 77 electra (403 olds) is still overheating on me. The water pump is fine, fan clutch is fine, i have new coolant and i just changed the thermostat. The last thing it could be is the rad. How can I tell if it needs replacing? The fins seem a bit green and crumbly so i ordered a new one anyway. I ordered a heavy-duty cooling rad from Canadian Tire for 177 bucks CAD. Will this be a 4 row rad?? My stock one had 3 and my car has AC. Also, is there any difference on the hose placement for any of these rads?? I've been told the hoses are in different places for cars with AC. I just want to be sure my new heavy duty one will fit ok. Thanks in advance!!

take it to a radiator shop and they will pull the tanks and clean it.

    Over Heating

At 25 years, it's time to replace the radiator. If it has green scale on it and is brittle, it's time. Beside all the things that are apparent, don't forget that a slipping transmission, out of time engine, slipping fan belt and brake drag can all play a part in overheating. Is the fan shroud still in place ?

The shroud is in place. I put in the new rad today and it seems to be running much cooler. I let it idle today for an hour or so. The temp was at about 85 degrees celcius for around 45 minutes, then it climbed up to 90. I'm going to try to find a new fan clutch for it. Mine seems a bit easy to turn when its hot.

As for the rest, the transmission is solid, but i'll definately check out the timing.
