this 70 GS 350 i just bought on ebay needs help. i changed the fuel pump to correct where someone installed an electrical pump. i installed a repro Poston metal fuel line at that time. ( it fit great. ) i also replaced the thermostat assuming it would be stuck.

i then got it running, & drove it 500 feet to the garage. then i noticed water dripping from the front center of the engine. i cant tell exactly where the water is coming from. i changed the water pump at which time i changed the oil filter, and drained the old oil which looked foamy and the dipstick showed it being over filled anyways. i put in new oil, and filled the radiator, it still leaks water from the front center of the engine. i never even cranked the motor over. i check the oil again, and its three quarts over filled. i drained about 3 qts of water from the oil pan.

how did i get 3 qts of water in the oil pan just by filling the radiator ?
what could possibly be causing the coolant to go in the crankcase so easily ? this is with no pressure on the cooling system.

i wonder if there can be a hole corroded in the timing cover ? or do i have a cracked block ? :Do No: i dont see how anything i did could have caused the problems, and i am not aware of these type problems with the 350.

it was suggested that it might be a bad intake manifold gasket. i dont know. i would try a pressure tester, but i dont see how it would help since i cant see the water pump area very well. any ideas ? thank you :Do No:

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

I would say 99%, your timing cover is bad. Probably someone put water instead of coolant and it ate the cover. You can get the new cover since they are the same as the V6.

that would certainly be nicer than a cracked block. the coolant may have been straight water. car came from Gilroy CA where it doesnt get very cold. also, the thermostat housing was ate up real bad on the end where the upper hose goes. ( the housing had holes in the end. ) the heater core is also bypassed right now. the cooling system has its share of problems. extreme corrosion could be the prob. one of the long bolts in the pump was rusted so badly i'm surprised it didnt break. i replaced that one. cleaned threads on the others.

i do hope its just the timing cover. thanks George !
