I was the one who gave Larry the name "The Wizard". He rightfully deserves that name. He has helped so many people and answered so many questions from confused and frantic members, that we should be thankful that he is a member of this board! I for one, am thankful for his time and expertise, which he gives both happily, and frequently! Good for you Larry! If It saved you time and hardship in this New York winter to have some of your work done, God Bless! Thanks for being there for me, when I needed you. I hope to meet you this year at the Nats. Regards, John. :beer
Hey Larry, somewhere on this BB I read that double gaskets are unnecessary as TA cast the valve cover rails high enough to clear roller rockers with the stock covers. Something to test next time you have them off for whatever reason.
larry, motor looks great, dont worry about your car running to cool it will stop the paint from flaking off. i know you prob dont want to hear this again but as i told you i was running the exact same combo as you and switching from kb 118 to ta 290 o8h alone netted me .5 sec faster et,awsome street cam with no downsides. @.050 238int 248ex on 112 lsa lift in the low .500's,w those heads flowing gd up to .600 you might even want to go w the high lift verson 290 08hl
Adam, I had read that also, but that wasn't the only reason for the double gaskets. If you look at the general notes on Aluminum Stage 1 ,2, 3, and 4 heads in the TA catalog,(pg 8), they state that the TA heads do not have a relief machined in the valve cover rail like original heads. In order to use stock valve covers, you must either trim the valve cover edge, or use double gaskets.
I don't care if the "Buick Guys" know, it's the snooty brand Xers that I want to fool. After you hand them their :moonu: , there's nothing like raising your hood to show them a stock appearing BBB, then watch them scratch their heads as they look for the spray
Definitely something to think about. I do eventually want to change the cam. I'll do my research and may even go the custom grind route when the time comes. For now, I really want to see what the head and manifold change will do for me. :TU:
Thanks John :TU: , I look foward to meeting alot more Buick guys this year. I'm going to try to make as many events as possible.
Larry, The engine looks great! I heard you folks down there got dumped on pretty hard the last couple of days... I bet you cant hardly wait until spring to tune that bad boy. :TU: Just curious though, Is your engine original condition or has it been rebuilt? I would think its a numbers matching powerplant. How many miles on that 455? You'll have a blast with the new power upgrade this summer! Congrats and take care. GG
Hey Larry.Great upgrades :TU:..you gotta love the "stealth" look(I did the same on my B4B).I also use a 180* stat..seems o.k. Later,Tony.
Hello Carmine Hello Carmine i don't think i had the pleasure of meeting you at E-Town were you there for Yardleys Win?
E-Town Carmine that guy travels FIRST class this is his daily driver! Strange he has not been on the board of late, rumor he shot someone bad dude.
Yup, 26.9" What a mess, got the car back from Rob Chilenski's shop 2 days before it hit. Perfect timing. Had enough time to clean it up, gas it up, cover it, and put it back in the garage. I bought my GS in 1999. The previous owner body off the frame restored it in 1997, and rebuilt the engine with forged pistons, KB118 cam, MT headers. Mileage on the car at that time was 88,000. His best time was a 13.6 @ 99.1 MPH. I bought the car at 90,500 miles, added a better exhaust, and the right carb. My best with it is 13.22@101. The engine has a replacement block, original was cracked. The heads and intake were the originals. I have 1 of the build sheets that authenticate it as a real Stage1. The trans is a 1967 switch pitch out of a big car. Current mileage is 105,000. So the motor has less than 20,000 on the rebuild.
So will these old heads of your's be making an appearance in the "Parts for sale" forum :Brow: , or has some alchemy been goin' on in the Wizard's workshop that turns cast iron into aluminium?
Now I'm into 72s and that has to be one of the nicest Stage1s I've ever seen. I love that color, is that Diplomat Blue, numbers matching, all original? Maybe the owner could give me some information on it. Is it for sale and how do I contact him. Wow, I want that car!
With a little "rattle can" paint your gonna need a magnet to spot this 'super sneaky" set. Can you see the difference? :Brow:
