Has anybody used a divorce choke conversion from Carbs Unlimited? I called and talked to them today but they don't have one for the Buicks. I asked about having them send one out and if it didn't work that I could send it back and they said no. So has anybody tried one of these units? It is going on a 455 with a SP1 manifold.

I'd be interested in putting a choke on my carb, holley 950 HP, also if possible.

I run a manual choke on my Holley 850 DP. Electric would be nice, but with a manual you always know if it's on or off. :)
Does anyone sell a manual choke kit for a Q-Jet? I have been thinking of ditching the Holley and going to a Q-Jet.

I installed an electric choke kit on mine, Carter AFB's, and it is the best upgrade I have made to the fuel system so far. It came with an electronic heat sensing device that attaches to the block, so that if the motor is warm and the car has been sittting the choke won't come on if it is not needed. Cost me about $45 at NAPA.

Do this, if you install it correctly it will work well and you will be glad you did it. :bglasses:

I had my Qjet worked over by John Osborne a couple years ago. He eliminates the choke completely. Today, after the 455 has sat since October, I fired the electric pump for about 30 sec., pumped the gas twice and it fired right up and was idling on it's own in less than a minute. Go figure.

What was the temperature when you started it? In Elko Nevada I would think it would be quite warm this time of year. :bglasses:

(someday my wife and I will move to the southwest........someday.......hopefully before I get so old that I can't enjoy it. )

I converted my old divorced choke quadrajet to electric choke. You'll need later model throttle shafts, and you have to make a spacer behind the round choke body to fit. It isn't hard to do.

I did it with a 70 q-jet and a 350. with the carbs unlimited conversion kit. took a bit of monkeying around but nothing you prolly can't handle. though im not sure how yours sits on the intake. I used the carbs unlimited bracket on a 1/4 inch spacer mounted on top of where the existing bowl for the devorced choke.

let me know if your interested and i can tell you more.

Nate thats the one I was looking at. Which one did you use? Can you take some pics of your installation? I am sure it will work but if someone else has already done it, it makes it easier. I guess more important which one did you use.

Joe do you have a part # for that sensor?

Yeah, it was 70+ but I've started the car on 30 degree nights and all it took was a few minutes extra to idle; started just as easy. I think getting rid of the choke is SOP for JOP and there are probably plenty of northern guys who have used his service. Just a suggestion guys.

I don't have it but it came with the kit from "Echlin" I got from NAPA. :bglasses:

Gary I never used to use the choke back when I was racing the car, just opened the hood and pushed the accellerator piston down several times. Still can do the same thing but its kind of a pain in the butt. For now I still do the same or have one of my daughters push the choke shut with a long screwdriver. They like doing that anyway. I am fortunate that I have an all female pitcrew! They tell me that dolls are for little girls, lets go race. Anyway now that the car is going back to street duty I thought it would be nice to put the electric choke on.

Holley "HP" carbs don't have a choke tower.:puzzled: You could have someone cup their hand over the primaries while you crank the engine. And hope it doesn't backfire.

    ...of course i'm just kidding.

well.. they sent me one for a small block chebby.
I had to turn the coil on the inside around 180 degrees (the movement was backwards) it pulled down instead of pushing up. (i may have this flip/floped.)

the rest of it is easy.
I'll get some photos this weekend. and write better instructions.

I am still waiting for the headliner, was supposed to be in Great Falls tomorrow for a big car show in the streets. But that ain't goin to happen I guess I will just go to look and walk around.
