With an ST-300 2-speed and a 350ci, how much clearance should there be between the torque converter and the flexplate?

The service manual is mum on the subject, and the only references I can find on-line are for Chevys and Fords.

    You should have 1/4-3/8" play/clearance.

3/8 is too much. I like to see no more than 1/4 inch between the converter and flexplate. Jim Burek

I measured 7/32" (a shade under 1/4"). I was concerned that might be too much since the drive tangs on the oil pump gear are pretty narrow.

You will be fine with 7/32. That is the reason i said I feel 3/8 is too much, you are just barely ctching the pump tangs with that much clearance. Jim Burek
