Hi all, I'm getting the console ready to swap into my 68 Wildcat and wanted to install the tach I scored that looked correct, but is in fact too large to fit where the Buick logo was. I wasn't in a console before as it came with a chrome back. Can anyone tell what Buick it would fit by the part number? If anybody wants it, I would swap for one that fits my car
This is probably the one you need. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/hard-to-find-wildcat-tach.289605/
That one won't fit either. Your mounting screws are at 10 and 2 o'clock and mine (seen from the rear) are at 4 and 8 o'clock.
Thanks for having a look Fred. I'm worried that it's the same part number as mine 6411300 and I know that will be too large for the opening. Strangely, even though the part# is the same, the bolt holes do look correct @ 8 and 4 o'clock. Looks like the dial is on the move in there and I have no knowledge to fix one. Does it work?
From memory long ago what I did was take the tach completely out of the chrome housing its in so its just the unit , then it seemed like it fit behind the tabs for the cat emblem or maybe I turned the bezel I know disassembled a cup tach and it fit great on my old cat was ezee pezee
Roy Although I finished restoring the console today with the best parts from 2, I tried once again to fit it into the console. It won't go no matter what. The tach is about 1/8th inch too large to pass thru the hole in the console. You can see in the first pic the tach on the desk at the right and the chrome insert from the parts console leaning on the desk lf. lower. Not gonna fit. Going to leave the tach out for now. Finished the console in black with the hatch hinges repaired and chrome polished.
Gary Maybe Im misunderstanding you but my tach mounted from the back side and didnt sit or pass thru the hole
Hi Roy, My tach (which looks exactly like yours) won't fit front or back. It's simply a larger version of the same tach. I found it on Craigslist for $50.00 so no harm no foul. It seems to be from around 1963. I will see how it looks on the A pillar as I have 2 A pillar covers and can change it back if I hate it there. On another topic, could you give me the measurement from the rear seat bottom to the end of the console so I can locate my console correctly? I'm converting from column shift.
Roy, I wanted you to know you were right!. I gave installing the tach in the console one more time and now it's in and works to boot. I had taken the back and brace off the tach, but didn't pry off the chrome surround that holds in the lens. Now it fit from behind without the surround.
Way to go my distant memory wasnt as bad as I thought. Now you can sell the empty cup and get your money back I bet.
