Good evening! (Well, over here it is) I bought a set of Hotchkis springs a couple of months ago, front and rear and I just recently replaced them. I have a 455 so I chose the SB-model to get the right stance.. Well? Its more like I have 'cad 472' springs I should ad that the front shocks were quite bad though and maybe that could have an effect? o No: Its an easy swap so I'll order a pair anyway Somehow I still like the look of it Adds some attitude and it allways pisses someone off
2 things. First, they should settle within a week or so of occasional driving. The problem I see with Hotchkis is that they do not consider the real engine weights for Buicks. I messed with springs for years, literally! The company that helped me, in the end, was Performance Suspension in Phoenix, AZ. They really knew their stuff! Perfect height - exactly how I wanted it. If your car doesn't settle down, you might be interested in cutting them down. Sorry for the hassle!
I am sorry! Im the one that suggested them. It seems that they may have sent you big block springs instead, but Andrew is right, they will settle some. Here is my no Ac, no power brake, no option 350 Skylark with small block springs... yes I had small wheels and tires on it. I gotta tell you, it looks like they sent you the wrong ones!
Yes it would appear that they sent me the wrong ones, allthough the packinglist says SB springs. I allso have no AC and alum.intake which might add to the 'raising'. I wont order another pair, the shippment all the way to Sweden is just too much. Ill just leave it as is and hope they settle some in the front Thanks for the reply guys :TU:
Mine had a stock 2bbl 350, which is still almost 200lb lighter than the 462 you have. Since you are overseas, the option you have is to cut a coil or two off of the springs. Hotchkis says it is perfectly safe when done with a cold method of cutting (not a torch or plasma cutter), to cut one coil off of the spring. It should drop the car an additional inch to inch and a half. Let the springs settle for at least two weeks. The car can drop up to almost an inch just in the settling. Good luck. The car looks great anyway :TU:
I'm sorry to hear about that mix up... I was a little concerned with my Big Block's effect on my SB Hotchkis springs, but was pleasantly suprised when it gave the car just enough rake. Regardless, your car looks great... just think of it as: you can always cut them down later on! And just to make you feel that much better about how GOOD your car looks, take a peek at mine! Nothing like primer and mis-aligned panels! LOL...
you could cut a half a ring off the springs(no torch) and see what you think, i did that with my regal springsuntil i found where i liked them
i shot an email out to them, to try to get shocks/springs for my 68 lesabre 400, and this is the reply i got: Sorry we do not have any listings for your application. Sonny 1-800-572-3768 that wasnt very helpful... and thats the same thing im getting everywhere. does anyone happen to have the specs on my springs so i can cross reference them with something else? 1968 Buick LeSabre 400 4 dr. 350-4bbl with ac. i would like some drop springs, but hell, i cant even find oem replacements...
confused! I just put Hotchkis BB springs in front with my 462, and it looks nothing like that. I also have aluminam intake, motor mounts , etc. I am a little confused. I did go through that place in AZ too. He directed me toward the BB springs o No:
eaton detroit sping in of all places, detroit has a knowlegeable staff and they seem to have all of the listings for all applications. try them.
I think they sent you the wrong ones. Here is my story. I ordered Moog springs to replace the horrible drag springs I had and they sent me the wrong ones. I replaced them with Hotchkis Big Block 1 inch lowering springs. I'm happy with them. I guess we can't repost pictures we have already posted which stinks!!! SO. Here is a link to the pictures from my older posts. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=52045&page=4&highlight=mjoe7
