Doo Wop Where were you in '62?

Don't really know where else to post this so here goes.

Having a problem with my system I can not figure out. Recently, whenever I reboot or shut down my mouse "freezes" when comp is turned back on or finished rebooting. I have to go to the back of my tower and unplug mouse from the USB port and plug it back in to get the mouse to work. Also when I use stand by mode I now have to tap on the back of the mouse to come out of standby. Have done the obvious and tried a different mouse....same results.
Also seems to take twice as long to load system now.
Is this a motherboard problem? Board is 7 month old P4 Titan.

One last question. Text size for viewing now defaults to medium setting from "larger" at startup...any ideas? Never have seen that before.

OS is Windows XP Pro....without SP2 update.

    Any advice appreciated.

    For text size...

Do you have a wheel on your mouse for scrolling? If so, then hold down the shift button while you spin th wheel. Watch the text size go up or down as you scroll.

Do that with the mouse "wheel" and text size does not increase here. Takes me back to previous pages or sites that I have recently viewed. Hold the shift key and move wheel ahead or back a notch...views change with the wheel.

Sure it's not some spyware or a software interaction problem? Aka, have you installed anything that uses the mouse (special cursors, etc) specifically?

No Spyware that I am aware of, at least according to SpyBot & Ad-Aware. No virus either.

Nothing installed that would impact mouse....no special cursors etc.
