I am having too many wiring issues with my 69 GS455 and would like some help there. I was planning to buy a 18 or 21 circuit printed wire harness from Painless. If there is a better harness out there, please let me know. :puzzled:

I'd also like to know after I select the harness, how much time I should expect my car to be out of commission and any tips to make the task easier like where's the best place on the car to start. What's going to give me the most grief...etc
    :Do No:

If there are any questions I left out and any one of you want to add your 2 cents. Please feel free!!!
    :TU:
    Thanks again and Aloha!

    check around 1st

I'm not sure what type of problems you are having ? Rewiring a car from scratch the right way is a big job. If it's not done correctly you will end up with more problems. Painless is a nice setup when starting from scratch on a racecar or street rod buildup. I would ask around and see if someone has a good donor harness on this board unless you truely wish to take this project on. To do this job would take a lot of time accessing all the parts to be wired, determining the correct gauge wire and each connection should be soldered/ shrink wrapped to ensure troublefree operation versus crimp only . Pre tinned lugs, ring connectors, butt connectors are also preferred when soldering. You should also be able to buy a repro harness for your car that would work nicely with stock applications. I would not go the painless route unless your ride is more geared to occasional street & heavy strip use with numerous electrical needs for powering pumps & relays.

Many problems are caused by poor connections. These connections get wet from the elements, corroded over time & wet again. Over fusing also contributes.Always stick with the factory fuse sizing, do not exceed. Unless you've had a complete melt-down, it might be wise to do a thorough survey of the electrical systems on your car.Check connection points, bulbs & sockets, spade terminals, factory joints, etc.. These are easy to replace with OEM parts if you concentrate on one system at a time.
Had a tail harness across the tail pipe in my car, by a previous owner. Blowing fuses when brake lights on. Isloate as much as possible, it's a time burner but you will find the problem. Likely take a lot less than replacing the whole harness.
Another spot I found was across the valve covers on my 350. Harness had been melted & hastily repaired. Cause unknown, by me. Found a donor engine harness, very reasonable, problem solved.

    Wiring issues...

I know by looking at the compartments that there are additions to the wiring that I don't recognize, but it might be helpful if I had gotten an engine and trunk wiring harness from the person I bought my car from along with several other parts I never got from the seller in So California. :af: I guess that a trip to the local auto electrician to have them identify where to start or what they may recommend.
After wiring the aftermarket mini starter, there were problems. Actually, there were problems immediately after the 455 was dropped in. A new starter was all that was added. Blah, blah, blah...

Get a copy of the chassis manual for your car. If nothing else get the wiring diagrams.
Available in CD or hard print. I mailed a set of 5 copies out to a member over the weekend. Mine is a '71. This will be some of the best money you can ever spend on the car. Find out how it was before it was modified.
