I am converting my car from bench to buckets. I am also adding a floor shift and console. Can I use my current steering column, and how do I keep the speedometer P R N D L L operational after the transition??

Yes you can and should use the same column. Only the bowl section where the original shift arm is different. Just pop of the arm. Finding and replacing this bowl section may be difficult if you want to eliminate the shift arm lug. The arm mechanism that attatches from the trans to the steering column is the same on all autos floor and column. The steering column always moves when you shift as this is what operates the Neutral safety switch which always must remain operational. Without this would cause an unsafe condition as the car could start in gear. The indicator in the speedo is the same for all autos as well and should remain operational by the clip that attaches from the speedo to the steering column.

Also check out the thread in the "Interiors" dept. as there are some great pictures someone posted as your car is setup the same.
