Bought a Coleman Mosquito Magnet from Menards . It run's off a propane tank and has a 30 day gaurantee .

Put it together , took 2 beers , and set it in the yard .

Well 4 days later it had 1 mosquito on the glue pads !!

It now rests at Menards after a "work out " in the Durband yard .

The returns clerk at menards said , " Don't exchange it for another , they are many coming back daily ....

    Junk !:af:

Back to the ole bug Zapper ! :Dou:   :TU:

im sure you already know this but, hang the bug zapper away from your picnic table/party area. i have seen many hung right next to the patio, then they dont understand why all the bugs are still in their face. :Dou: brad.

Consumer Reports and Dateline did a study on the "mosquito killers." End result, none of them work. Even the "black light" style were worthless. Those also killed many beneficial insects.

The only proven chemical to work is DEET.

Sorry to hear they do not work.
I live in a great area but have more mosquitoes than I can stand. I was hoping they worked.

We will be buying a Buick sized bug zapper and of course hang it far away from the patio .

Whats better than the sound of a mosquito getting fried while your drinking a cold one with friends ....

     :TU:

  6. Bruce, thanks for the evaluation. I've been wanting to look into the various options like the Coleman one, guess I'll cross that one off the list.

    David ,
Thats just one of the great things about this board .We all learn from each other and most of us still have to learn the hard way .

It did "look" Kool but a 12 pack on ice with a bug zapper hanging in the yard will sure be much better .

Glad to help .... Have a great fourth !

I think you would be better off building a bat house instead of buying a bug zapper. Bats are the best mosquito control out there. Cost is nothing and it is natural. If I remember correctly a bat can eat 1/2 its body weight in mosquitos every night.

Ahhh, what do you do after your big Thanksgiving meal????
Lay on the couch and watch football, take a nap?????
    LOL !

With the bug zapper, you will definitely kill more beneficial insects than mosquitos. The "black light" zapper will attract bugs by light which includes moths, beetles, dragonflys, etc.

Mosquitos are attracted to humans by carbon dioxide and not due to light/heat.

"Ask This Old House" did a segment re: these mosquito magnet deals.

Landscaper Roger said they were good.

    Shame on Roger.

The skeeter people must have got to him.:blast:

Bug zappers are the coolest thing ever, I could just sit there and watch it all day. My friends dad had one and we had to let their dog out and we kept watching all these different kinds of bugs go in there and get zapped, it's hypnotizingly awesome.
