coil choice

    I have to replace my coil anyway, so can a high output coil (prob Pertronix Flame Thrower?) be used with a stock points system? Can/should I increase the plug gap from .030?

    I eventually plan to put a stealth HEI conversion in anyway.

    Do you want it to look original or are you ok with a chrome coil?

    Original will be best. I can pick one up anywhere; I am just wondering whether
    a high output one will fry my points. I dont think so, it's high volts not amps, but I'm not sure.

    I went with the MSD 8140C (made in the USA), it's chrome but I think you can get it in red or black also and it fits in the stock location/bracket. I upgraded to an Ignitionman Mag pick-up distributor and an MSD 6AL box. The coil was recomended buy several people. I guess you want to stay away from the coils made in mexico. It's all worked great for me...just my 2 cents worth. :TU:
