Did any of the 70 GS hardtop interiors get the coat hooks in the headliner? My car has the original headliner intact, and there are no hooks, which is fine, but I got a mint pair of red hooks from a 70 Chevelle that I could install,if they ever had them. I think just about all of my Cutlass/442’s had them.
Brian, As far as I know they all came with them, or at least were supposed to have them. The 70 units are different then you see in most of the cars. They are smooth and have what looks like a series of "steps" cast into the middle. The design changed to a pebble grain in 71 without the "steps". They are not the easiest things to find, especially good ones without the plastic alignment tip broken off. I may have a few left from my interior days, but would have to check. Duane
Dave, I think he wants to keep them red as he is putting a red interior in the car. Duane PS. The trim code would have been "187" (Red Buckets) if they had ever made that interior.
Yes,I am installing a complete 70 GS deluxe interior,in the correct 1970 red color. My original headliner is intact, and there are no marks or holes from ever having the coat hooks. That is why I asked if all of the interiors got them,or if they were some sort of option.
"I never though there was a red interior for a 70" There wasn't. Brian is doing a special order interior in the correct for 1970 GM red vinyl. I think I also made one up for a guy when I had my Upholstery company going. We did lots of crazy stuff like heat sealing GSX logo's in seat covers, and embossing the Shelby Cobra designs in some 67 Mustang seats. We also embossed the Chevy Bowtie emblems in other seats. We did other crazy things to some Mopars. I remember putting Purple cloth inserts in the middle of a black bucket seat interior for a Plum Crazy car. It had some weird geometric pattern to it and would make you dizzy if you looked at it too long. It looked horrible as just seats alone, but looked fabulous in the car. Duane
Dave, Some times it takes a while to "chip away" all the clutter until you get to the brain. Don't feel bad we are all there now. Remember Roseanne Roseannadanna, "Never Mind". Duane
Yes,I am making something that never was. Buick Skylark/GS never had red in 1970,but Chevelle and GTO did,so I took that color red and had Legendary make my door panels and seat covers. REM made my package tray, headliner, and visors. I found some very nice original red bucket seat headrests that I restored, and I recently bought an original set of red windlace from a 70 Chevelle. I am am trying to use as much original GM parts for the look. I did buy new repop red windlace from The Parts Place last year, and all they did was take black and spray a dye on it. I will start a thread about this whole project when I go through the installation process.
Oh yes, back when SNL was worth watching. Now it’s a just a political hit job. And it’s not even funny. How often can you watch Baldwin say Gina? A red interior sure sounds cool.
Also if you get Flat lacquer red paint it will paint the dash pad very nicely without any primers. Have them mix the Chevy interior code in flat. The semi gloss is for lower dash.
Colors vary between manufacturers too. I had a bad color match for 71 Saddle with DuPont but PPG was dead on. Likewise with my exterior yellow on my GSX. DuPont was too creamy yellow and PPG was right on which is odd as DuPont was original supplier in most cases in 70.
