CO Buick 350 Wagoneer I stumbled on to this group and thought I'd sign up. Not much info on Buick 350s in the FSJ lists, so maybe I'll get some pointers here. We just got the 69 Wagoneer with Buick 350 last month. They were used in FSJs from 69-71. It is almost complete. Has a dinky carb on it and will want to go with a 4 bbl upgrade at some point. Yeah, I know it is an ugly brick next to a nice Stage or GN, but it IS Buick V8 powered! :eek2:
CO Buick 350 Wagoneer Thanks JTY! Just got a good battery in her and turned it over! Wiring is buggared up. She was last registered in 94, so no telling what it needs at this point. Will start by cleaning it up, pull plugs and pump some kerosene in the combustion chambers next. Then try some compression testing and start cleaning out the fuel system. :beer
If the starter is just clicking, the solenoid may be frozen. If you haven't tried it yet, try tapping the starter with a big wrench.
Welcome aboard! Would you be kind enough to look between the engine and tranny for an adapter plate. The '70 Wagoneer I've been looking at for the engine/trans/xfer case has a 1" adapter engine to what I think is an AMC TH400. I'll be adding a Buick 350 to my Willys pickup project. Thanks.
Nice Willys! Sorry, mine has a T85 3 speed manual. I can check with some of the Jeep folks and see what this adapter is. Based on my experience, it is hard to say if the T400 is AMC bolt pattern or not.
Ibet that 1-inch thick trans adapter is to adapt a Buick NAILHEAD pattern trans to the engine, believe it or not. Supposedly, Buick sold and Jeep bought up a bunch of excess nailhead turbo 400 cases to use, and since a nailhead has a sort of extended bellhousing on the engine, that adapter plate not only adpats the bolt pattern, it also takes up the space difference. Jeep (AMC) did use a lot of AMC bellhousing pattern Chrysler 727 auto trannies. I guess I just gave up a source for the hard-to-find nailhead turbo 400 trannies.
