Why yes I have. Sorry to hear of this but as was mentioned now you get to see more of your engine.

Cold oil could cause the pushrod to stick to the lifter. I have run into this on a few lower mileage engines when disassembling, pushrod pulls the lifter out...the oil cant escape from the pushrod fast enough, causing a hydraulic lock.

How does the end of the pushrod look?

I had a 460 in a Sunkist Jet boat but I was 20 something and it didn't seem all that difficult. I can't tell you how glad I am to hear I'm not the only one needing a cherry picker to install a BBB intake, I felt like a 98 year old 98 pound weakling :Dou:

The Genie is back in the bottle .. the toothpast back in the tube .. the rabbit back down its hole

An inspection camera, magnetic pickup tool and a piece of coat hanger (to hold the lifter down while pulling the magnet off) is what did the trick - all things I had in my arsenal .. didn't take more than a couple of minutes. Also used the coat hanger to hold the rest of the lifters down while extracting the pushrods - all looked good on both ends, and rolled perfectly smooth on a piece of glass.

So, the jury is still out on what the initial noise is - spoke with JW and since it definately sounds single-cyl related and oil pressure is unchanged, I will follow his advice and put a qt. of ATF in the oil and run it a bit.

Im just glad for now I'll be able to move it in/out of the garage to finish some other projects before winter blows in .. I can tear into it after then if it continues

.. or install the 463 :brow:

Had that same issue with my first turbo V-6 many moons ago. Eventually a lifter collapsed and it was horrible to try and get home with the knock sensor backing the timing out.

Hopefully the noise will just go away and all will be right with the life again. But I've never been that fortunate.....

I to have a 462 stage engine ready to go except for what pistons to put in it, what car to put it in and a wife who can't understand why we have to make such decisions. Ha, ha, ha...

JW also said he's seen it with low-mile/well oiling systems .. its a '68 400 and the pushrods are solid - quite a few wanted to come out with the rods

... all rod ends look as they should as do the both sides of the rockers

    Glad that went well.
is the rocker worn where it rides on the shaft? Stock rockers? Would be nice to find the noise...buuuut

It sounds like that 462 needs a home...
