At some point in its life, my convertible's hytrolic lines must have leaked.. well the seatbetls soaked it all up.

I have tried to soak them in a bucket of cleaner. and they looked clean. the water was like mud.

but still if you have on light shorts or pants and sit in the back you still get dirty where the seatbelts wrap around your hips...

I have looked for new seatbelts but have you seen the price a black set goes for these days? :Dou:

    Curtis,

I used Wisk Laundry Soap (Wifes suggestion), I let them soak for a while, kept working them by hand every five minutes or so and then rinsed them until I got no more soap out. Mine were brown but stained and they came out clean. I also rinsed them with a little liquid fabric softner and it seemed to soften them up too.

    Good Luck,
    Matt

If none of the above works you could always send them to Ssnake Oyl Products.
They restore and rebuild seat belts.

I had the same problem with my 'vert. I bought a specific "seat belt" cleaner from my detail products supplier. After repeated, and I mean repeated applications of soaking, wiping, vacuuming, they came out pretty good. It took a couple of days of doing this over and over, but it worked. I used a white terry cloth towel to wipe down the belts and kept going until I could wipe the belt without staining the rag.

    Tried Dawn dish soap?

How about carb cleaner or brake cleaner?

I have used spray-nine with good success on oil/dirt soaked belts before. It cuts grease like crazy...in a big sink, spray them down until soaked, use scrubbrush to work it in, then rinse, and use scrubbrush again with clean hot water to make sure it is all out. Repeat as necessary.

The stuff is pretty agressive, if your belts are faded it may make it worse.
