After the shock wore off I went and spoke with my local race car guy / engine builder and outlaw 632 world champ, Kenny Voss. Seems he knows that inspector and said he was a d--k. and in hind sight he really seemed like he didnt want to hear anything I had to say after he'd made up his mind. So that is probably a dead end.

Was on the phone with one of the higher up Tech Directors from Div 1 on Monday / maybe tuesday. He asked for the cert number off that tag but when it read IHRA he couldnt do anything with it. Wonder if I got ahold of the IHRA Tech dept they would have any records?

Im fully on board with what John is tellin me and totally believe its true. getting that second look may or may not end up well unless I have some sort of doc's to back me up.

Aren't some builders also inspectors? Kinda like the old vehicle emission stickers where you paid the old gruff $50 and he put a sticker on your smoke billowing pile haha...idk never had anything certified .....they would obviously know more than the "inspector " I'm reminded of the building inspector ls for construction...those guys have vaginas apparently and are always on a perma period and just like a being an underachieving ass

You can have it PMI'd it stands for Positive Material Identification. It uses a hand held gun that you touch the surface and pull the trigger and it will tell you the composition of the material being tested. It wont hurt a thing and we have it done all the time at work. We have to verify what materials we use in pumps and it has to be documented. You get a readout with your test results. It is something to possibly look into.. Hope this helps Timmy Haeffner

Ok now where to get that done.

I've decided to drive down to the Snowbird Nationals at Bradenton Motorsports Park next week. They will have a chassis guy on site for 3 days. Would love to have some documentation before I go.

If you don't have any luck with the sticker that John sent you, the company we use for PMI work is Team Industrial. There are others that do it as well, it just depends on where you live and such. Hopefully the sticker will get the job done. Timmy

Theres a branch of that company "Acuren" that does that sort of testing in Orlando which is sort of on the way to the track. Gonna give em a call tomorrow to see if its something they can do in the parking lot while we wait.

The problem with pmi is that the hand held gun I don't believe is good enough to tell the difference. You may need the desk top version that needs to vaporize a part of it to tell. The other question is where did he check the thickness? On a bend that thins out a tube on the bottom side of the tolerance. Did he at least check a couple of places to confirm its under. I know McAmes said he checks all of his material because of steel mill tolerances. Also I thought they would certify it for a slower E.T. if it was an old car.

He checked in several places and got about the same readings. None of them were in a bend. As far as the ET goes , without being certified it cant go faster than 9.90

Update. The car passed. Drove down to Bradenton Motorsports Park. 5 hour drive with stops and traffic ect. Stayed the night at a hotel 20 miles from the track and then went over the following morning. Got there at 8:30 Friday, found out where tech was and went over and signed in. Rolled the car out of the trailer to wait. It was almost like a car show for all the spectators that walked buy and looked the car over. She was very popular in a crowd of shiney new 632 outlaw cars and promods. About 11:30 the inspector showed up. I was playing it quiet and not devolging any more info than I needed to. Guy,Rich, said didnt you have this car up in Ga for an inspection a few weeks ago? Ok so now the cats out of the bag. Told him my side of what had transpired. and showed him the 2 prior certs Denny and John had sent me. He started checking wall thickness and his readings were 85/86 all the way through the car. Then said that the 20 yr old meter the last inspector uses was way out of date and known for false readings. Rich hung around for another 20 mins afterwards filling me in on what would need to be done to make it a 7.50 car. Also asked to keep the copy's I showed them . I paid him and gave the guy a tip to buy lunch for he and the guy that was with him.

Never did get a return call for the Acuren place in Orlando. Only left 3 messages in 4 days.

A 20 year old out of date meter caused you all this headache and added expensive.

Not very Professional Inspection process and stressful to you.
Glad to see your outcome was very good for you. VET (Navy)

I drafted a letter to NHRA explaining the issues and requested a reimbursement for time and travel.

I would rather chalk it up to learning experience. Unless you found a group of people that the same thing happened to.

Briz, Glad for ya, that it all worked out in the end. And you got some tips from the inspector. Sounds like he was the right guy.
