I've had this nice Made In USA CR Profuel since the early 80s when I bought my '69 442... but I got 3 China junk Spectre replacement elements as a $2.29 "add on" to get to $25 free shipping on Amazon. Cheap thin junk... I've soaked and used compressed air on my last Heavy Quality one, but they don't last forever. Does anyone still make the Heavy Quality elements? Thanks, Mart
Ya like playing with junk you'll end up with BAD results. GET THIS THING OFF BEFORE YOU HAVE A REAL PROBLEM. Hope you carry a BIG fire extinguisher!!!!!!
Seriously, these style filters are unsafe and have been the cause of many total loses... please consider replacement. Jim
It's not "if" it breaks it's WHEN it breaks, then you'll be really sorry! They took those off the market years ago for a good reason. Been a lot of vehicles that burnt to the ground because of them. Keith
Here's the last of the Heavy Elements back in...no collapsing. I personally like to see what the fuel is doing. Here's what happens to Plastic filters...heat makes the element detach inside the filter. I appreciate your folks concern...if you were in an accident the Pyrex could possibly break. No worries...it's got to come off anyway with no heavy elements being made. Thanks All... HAPPY THANKGIVING to ONE and ALL!!
K&N, Mr.Gasket, Spectre, Dorman, Engo and others still sell these metal and Pyrex filters, but they're Made in China junk. Thanks All...it's coming off. Mart
I have to confess I also have one of those in my to-be-installed-someday pile. I understand there are some serious risks to it. And I am not surprised. So what are you doing instead? No external fuel-filters at all? Patrick
X2 I have one installed inside the frame rail where the fuel line splits under the driver seat......JIM
Mine is along the R frame rail between the rubber fuel line and where it goes to hard line. Installed it when it got upgraded to 1/2 all the way up
I had one of those see-thru filters that began to come apart while I was driving. I could smell gas. I tossed that pos in the garbage.
Probably metal, Patrick. I guess I've been blessed...I got mine in a DE speed shop in '83...never leaked a drop on my 400 in the '69 442, or Buick 350 and 455.
So you guys are keeping the fuel filter away from the distributor as far as possible for safety reason?
I always figured they leaked because the glue or epoxy was deteriorating, not because of glass breakage. Either way you end up with fuel, heat and sparks....
Phillip, Mine is Chromed metal, replaceable rubber O rings and Pyrex....no glue.... No leaks in over 36 years. MADE IN USA ....but I'll go the safer metal route. Mart
Mine is where it is so its out of sight. The Wildcat has a plastic filter strapped to the front R head just above the fuel pump. I think it was supposed to be metal.
