I would like to swap my '67's Skylark's 300ci-V8 to a Chevy 350. Is there anyone out there that can direct me to obtaining information regarding this procedure? Any recommendations on engine sizes,ie 307,327,350 etc?How about the pitfalls, ie Chevy distributors are on the rear of the engine etc..? Will a Chevy 350 accept my stock transmission? It's a two speed Buick gearbox. How about resources in the Northern California area that could rebuild my present motor? If I swap this motor, will it be impossible to restore the original back in? Thanks for ANY information that I can get in this regard.

There are much easier swaps than plunking a Chebby engine in there. I would do everything I possibly could to get the Buick motor back in. If you ever go to sell the car, you'll be happy you did.:TU:

Keep your Buick car all Buick:grin:

This a site where you will find loads of info on how to repair and/or modify your 300, or upgrade to a larger Buick engine.

Don't expect much help on installing a Chevy 350, which is discouraged by Buick enthusiasts.

If you want chebby power, why not just go out and buy a chevelle? Cheap motors don't belong in a Buick. :bglasses:

You can probably get a solid buick 350 for less than a rebuild. A lot of the guys on here are pulling out perfectly good 350 engines upgrading to 455s. I'd suggest that you put a new thread on parts wanted for a 350 buick engine and see what you find. If the alternative is a chevy swap, I'm willing to bet there are some folks that would prefer to donate an engine that's in their way than see it happen. Location is the driving factor, and timing, for getting that sort of special deal.

You will need Chevy motor mounts and modify your existing fuel lines and wiring due to the distributor and carb being oriented differently. You may have to get new radiator hoses as well. The accessories and brackets, etc. are different for the Chevy and Buick as well. The Buick tranny is not a bolt on, but there may be an adapter plate made (there is for the th350) to mate the two together. I am sure I am missing something, but that is just what came to mind... You can go back to Buick power without any problems because the swap is completely reversible. Good luck!

    chevy engine swap 2

Thanks for the replies! My swap is prompted by impatience. I love driving my Buick so much that I want to drive her right now! But her engine is tired and broken. I fully intend to rebuild my Buick's engine and keep my Buick stock. Once you go Buick... you can never go back. A Buick 350 from a later year would be a nice swap. Can a Buick 350 long block be had in a crate?A Buick 340 or 300? Where ? Some suggestions by name would be greatly appreciated. It seems from your replies that the swap would be such a hassle that the effort would be too much to correct later for the swap back to Buick. Thanks for your replies..even the ribbing. Woops..found the links attached to some of your replies...thanks. :spank:

You could also consider dropping in a 3.8 SFI V6 turbo engine.

    uh, no.

Chevy engines do not fit into any buick , it's impossible. The car will undergo terrible unrepairable damage if you even attempt this. The gearing is all wrong in the rearend, the BOP bellhousing will not match a chevy engine. and a chevy transmission will be getting you into length problems to the point where you will have to lengthen the radius arms that hold the rear end in place. If you pull this off, the old buick would never withstand the sheer might of your engine. SELL THAT CAR, SELL NOW! you can post it somewhere here if need be. Just don't waste your time and precious $75.00 chevy engine. The other option, get a buick engine, sell me the small block chevy. I have been looking for something approximately that weight to strap into my truck's bed for winter driving. Tom

Why not blow 10 grand or so on a Hemi to put in the old gal. That way you could get about as much horsepower and almost as much torque as my Grandpa's LeSabre.

A good buick 350 sounds like a good motor for you. A lot of people are now dropping perfectly good 350's from their buicks and putting in 455's, and since alot of that is happening it isn't that hard to find one. Heck, if I could afford gas mileage and had the time on my hands as I wish I would put a 455 into my buick, but since that isn't an option for me I am planning on snugging in a buick 350 in place of the old and tired 231. You can make awesome power on an affordable amount of money w/ a buick 350. I'd say go w/ the buick motor, whatever your choice of cubic inch is. :TU:

Yes-go with the Buick 350. I have seen otherwheres on this board that people think the Buick 350 is (of course) well underappreciated, and just as durable as any Buick motor. I think someone even said "one of the best motors GM ever made".
