Hi, just finally ordered & received 2 295 50 15 for back & 2 265 50 15 for front. ( I know its really large for front...wanted that nascar look) I wanted goodyear eagles gt II but the 265 50 15 are unfindable, had to get some hankook, wich I dont realy like. I was thinking of mounting them with the black outward and use white tire paint & GoodYear cobra stencils...is this a good idea?? heres some pics, they are not mounted yet. The wheels are 15x8 front & 15x9.5 back, they are Chevys steely with the 1967 buick ''sombrero'' style hubcaps.
I have 255/60-15 all around on mine on Buick 15x8 rims The fronts will rub on certain bumps But the look will be very cool! :TU:
Finish painting them. I grinded off the ''H Hankook, Ventus 101'' Logo on the back/black side of the tires..... dont know if it was such a good idea to take out rubber on the side of the tires..?? Painted them with the stencils & ''white tire paint'', did not do a good job, was oversprayed & did not look to good, anyway, we'll see how much it hold on with the elements & weather..
I've always thought the GS would look awesome with black nascar wheels and stance so I'm looking forward to the end result. Tire mod looks awesome!
It does not make it right, but people do it all the time <iframe width="640" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pHWTa2tAYIc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Heres the results: - Front wheels/tires: 15x8 chevy/corvettes wheels (4.5 backspace) + 265/50 h hankook ventus 101 tires. (Blackside grinded, Good Year Eagle cobra lettering stencils) - Rear wheels/tires: 15x9.5 chevy/corvettes wheels (6 backspace) + 295/50 h hankook ventus 101 tires. (Blackside grinded, Good Year Eagle cobra lettering stencils) Fronts will rub on wheel well moulding when cornering and hitting a bump, and will rub when wheels are straight forward and hitting a bump on the one bolt ahead holding the fender to the inner fender. Picture of the black 1970 Buick GS is from a member here from wich I was inspired for the chevys/corvette wheels and the little sombrero buick hubcaps.
If all you are taking off is the raised portion of the letters, you will be as safe as if the tires were never modified. That is not part of the tire's "useful" portion. Had I thought of doing this, I would have bought plain wide wheels (not the ones with the rallye wheel cutouts) and used poverty caps. I'll do that the next time I buy tires, I guess, which may not be in my lifetime, as much as my Buick gets driven lately. I like that look!
I really like the look! So are you planning to do some trimming to keep them from rubbing? If others think it is ok to remove the letters with a grinder then great, I was just a little worried.
