Not to be a wet blanket, but they were talking pretty respectfully about us. Let's not go over there and ruin our good reputation.

Great Post!!! Well guys I think the cats out of the bag! :Brow: Fells good to be on the radar screen, hech when you get challanged by a late model Corvette like I did the other day, it makes me see that Buicks are now being a force that brand "X" owners are now ackowledging :3gears: :beer AL.

I'm with you guys. I love my Buick, but I think the Chevelle was a pretty cool car too. It's a sister or at least a cousin to our beloved cars. I think some friendly taunting with some measure of respect is the right balance.

I had friends in High School with Chevelles "back in the day" and they were a hoot to drive and race. :3gears:

I've been trolling on that board for awhile, pretty cool guys as far as car guys go. Plus lots of info to exchange that applies to our A-bodies as well. Remember, go fast with class.

Yeah, the Team Chevelle guys are pretty cool, at least they're not bashing buicks like I thought they would. I love chevelles as well. Nice cheap and fast performance, and I have nothing wrong with them, and now that I know that alot of the chevy group give us respect, they gave me an all new prespective and respect for them. :TU:

History of the Red and Yellow Stage 1 Convertibles

Jason, I also know Bruno Jr & Sr. very well. I've known them since 1990 (met them on Hempstead Trpk one Sat night and no, I wasn't dumb enough to race them) and I use to hang out at his house all the time. In a couple of your threads you mentioned:

"The only other convertible I know of on Long Island is owned by a guy named Dean. He's got a red 70 Stage 1 with a white interior. Used to be Bruno's old car. If it was Bruno's, you KNOW its fast! Gotta be his."

"I like how they say we travel in packs...like wolves! HAHAHA There was Bob Luccese's 70 Stage 1 convertable that had a yellow GSX paint job on it."

Here's a little more background on both cars:

Bob's car use to belong to Bruno too. In May of 1995 (Bruno just picked up the 64 Special but was still running his White 70 GS 455), it was sitting on his driveway with a horrible yellow and black stripe paint job and the rag top had a hole or three in it. I believe Bruno had done some of his majic to it and started her up for me. Thru the 2 1/2 or 3 inch exhaust, you could hear that engine purr like a Mountain Lion. Bruno told me it was an original 70 GS 455 Convertible, non Stage 1 car. He said she was for sale but my brain farted and I kindly declined :Dou: (turned out to be the right decicion as you'll see  ). The body itself was in pretty decent shape but there were some areas that needed a little work. At the end of May I got commissioned in the Air Force and by mid-June I was at Lackland for Tech School, and by Aug I was permanently stationed at Aviano Air Base in Italy. Through out the next year we stayed in touch and I eventually had enough $ (and maturity) to be able to buy that yellow convertible. But by the time I had made up my mind to buy it, Bruno had already sold her to Bob but he reluctantly offered me a different convertible... a dark blue factory Stage 1 he had recently re-acquired from his ex-son in law. By the way, I think Bob did a great job with that car... the paint, interior, and motor all looked immaculate! In March of 96, I finally made it back home on leave and made an immediately bee-line for Bruno's house. When I arrived I saw two 70 GS convertibles sitting on his driveway; a dark blue and a light blue one. I asked him which one was the Stage 1 and he replied "both are Stage 1s!" :puzzled: I aked him where the other one came from and he told me that it use to be his duaghter's... the one that was married to the son-in-law! (One family, two 70 Stage 1 Convertibles :TU: ) She had just sold it back to him b/c she really wasn't interested in it anymore and she figure dad was the best person to sell it to (Good Choice!!!). This light blue convertile definitley needed some help. Body had quite a bit of rot, the rag top and interior were hurting and the drive train need some TLC, but she was all there. Bruno told me that a guy named Dean wanted a 70 Stage 1 Covert for his GS loving wife and since the dark blue one was already spoken for  , Dean agreed to buy the light blue one and Bruno got down and dirty. He ripped the car apart, replaced all the rotted panels (fenders, Q-panels, floor pans, I think the doors) with some great condition ones he had buried in his garage and in the backyard and then sent the car to Mike Shmeltzer to get it painted bright red. I actually had to be painted twice b/c Mike got water in his air compressor and paint started to micro bubble all over the place. After paint had cured, Bruno redid the entire interior, had a new rag top installed, and I believe he rebuilt the motor, and the TH400 got swapped out for the switch-pitch. As Bruno Jr and Sr were putting the front bumper on, they scratched the heck out of the paint on the front of the fender and the car went back to Shmeltzer's. After a quick touch-up, the bumpers were CAREFULLY bolted on and the rest is history. As for my Stage 1, Bruno was actually building that car for himself as his weekend warrior/show car. Since we're good friends, he reluctanly sold her to me a day or two after I had arrived in NY (He still fondly calls it his car when he talks about it). Compared to Deans car, mine was in MUCH better shape. Q-panels were good, fenders were good, doors had a little rot but repairable, motor had just been rebuilt with Bruno's Majic, tranny was decent but I had him swap it out for a TH200 R4 out of a Grand National. Since I was having it shipped to Italy I need an overdrive tranny to blow away those snotty BMWs and Porshes on the highway! :3gears: It's interesting that almost 10 years later, the same guys still own the same cars that we bought from the same guy! :beer

And that's the end of today's history lesson. Any questions? :Do No:

P.S. Remember Bruno's old 70 race car... yep, I bought that one too! God Bless Bruno!

I remember hanging out at Hot Rod Burger King in 1985. Thats when I first met Bruno. We've been friends ever since. I remember the dark blue Stage 1 being parked in the street in front of his house 'back in the day". When was the last time you saw that? I bought a few GS's from Mike ("the GS dismantler") Schmeltzer. I saw Bob at the BPG Nats in August. He loves that convertible. Bob lives in Florida now. I remember all of Bruno's cars well. Bruno's son still has the 71 Stage 1. It used to be painted Cortez gold with brown panels (70s style). Im surprised we havent met at some point. Back then I used to work at ATV on Hempstead Turnpike. My white GSX was always parked out front. Ahh...the good ole days
