This was an email that I got from a friend. The story in the email says the cat was killed while trying to kill a calf in a farmers pasture in Stover, MO. I put the photo on a hunting forum and someone responded that it was shot 6 miles from Bellevue, WA which is a suburb of Seattle.
That's what the response on the hunting forum said. It was killed by Roy Hisler with Jim Hackewitz calling with a varmit call. The cat was over 200# and scored 15 7/16's" Boone/Crocket score(head measurement). That's as big as a wheel!!
That's a big cat, could you even imagine holding a cat that big? scares the crap out of me knowing there are cats that big in Cali. as was the latest with the gal that got biten by a willd cat on the trail, as well as them finding another victom in the same area. walk softly and carey a big stick!! Bruce
I like to walk loudly and carry a Weatherby .300 magnum!!!! My wife's got two cats in the house that I'm dying to put a bullet in so you know what I've got for this big fella!:blast:
Wildcats are much smaller like a Bobcat. This cat has several names, mountain lion, puma, Florida panther, panther, cougar, etc. I think it goes based on what area of the country it's in.
we have a cabin, a real little place, in the Sierra's somewhat near Yosemite at about the 3600' level that is very remote in the national forest. about 3 weeks ago we were there for the weekend doing some work, and there was snow on the ground. after about 4-5 hours of work in the cold I came in for some lunch and to watch the Sunday afternoon games on the satellite dish (no one said I had to suffer while I was out there...). About a 1/2 later I get up to stretch and walked to the front door that has a glass top half to watch the snow come down. As I gazed around I looked down at the ground by where the grate/mat is right at the base of the front door, and there are 2 sets of very fresh mtn lion tracks. They had come up from the hillside slope below the house, along the front door, then out 100' of the driveway and then back to the house, and then up the remaining slope to the top of the hill and out of sight. scared the crap out of me, paw prints in the snow much larger than the size of my balled up fist. I proceeded to spend a few minutes looking out all the windows with the binoculars prior to returning to the outdoors... I would have loved to have been able to watch them come up the hillside, but from the comfort of the inside of the house, gently cradling my .270 winchester just in case. I'd image that they would be beautiful to watch. the pic above is a huge cat. I've also seen a medium size brown bear come thru early last fall. He came trudging thru the brush, sounded like a drunken sailor, foraged around for awhile and then rambled on
when we lived in Salt Lake City, it was common for the big cats to come down into the neiborhood during the winter looking for food, Cats, dogs or garbage cans. If you heard a ruckus in the garbage cansat night you didnt open the door with out a gun. Made life in the mountains interesting. Mark
Watch out you Michiganders. The Mi DNR finally admitts that these big "wild cats" do exist in Mi and they are doing very well thank you. Really though not to worry, they prefer whitetail deer. Need to kill one every 5-7 days, and we got plenty of deers for em to eat. No need to eat us people. http://www.miwildlife.org/CougarsBroc.pdf Larry Muskegon, Mi 71 stage1
I would not like that thing to come barreling down on top of me !!! that is one big puddy cat!!! I cant imagine what even a small bear or other wild animal would be like to come after you!!! Speaking of wild animals I have a bear skin rug to sell if anyone needs one for their cabin
Mike You'd better keep that bear skin and wear it when putting the trash out. Cat's won't attack a bear!
We had one here in Omaha over the summer. It was tranquilized by the people from The Henry Doorly Zoo. The chilling part is that it was found roaming around Lake Zorinsky which is about 3/4 mile from my house and I go to work at 5 am. Just glad it wasn't going through my trash.
I just finished a book called The Beast in the Garden. It is about the first lion attacks in denver, and how and why the kittys behavioral pattern changed. An easy read for a late night.
I think a cat that size could go wherever it wanted. I'd like to send a cat that size to my neighbor's yard. They've got some retreiver/spaniel mix that barks at everything. I think a cat that size could shut it up. - Freed
