I'm trying to locate the vin or chassis no on a 1975 ELECTRA but cannot locate it. Can I get some expert knowledge where would I find it thanks.
This car has had a RHD conversion in 70`S and it`s not there but my 73 Regal also RHD converted has it. Has the Chassis been stamped with the VIN as well or only the dash?
I've found a tag on the car looks like a VIN number. How do you decipher the day and month in 1975 by this tag?
That is the body tag, not the VIN tag. Here is how to decode it: BODY BY FISHER ST 75 4CV39 FL1 088825 BDY TR Z26C 26 11T PNT 10E A65 C09 ST = style 75 = 1975 model year 4CV39 = Fisher body style number 4 = Buick C = C-body platform V = Electra 225 Custom 39 = 4-door hardtop sedan FL1 = body built at Flint MI 088825 = body number (no relation to VIN) BDY = body (total production was 27,357 units) TR = trim Z = trim or color override (probably because the recommended interior trim colors with Majestic Blue paint were Silver, Black, or Black and White) 26C = Blue Cloth and Vinyl with Notchback Front Seat (Garland cloth and Madrid grain vinyl), available on 4CV37 and 4CV39 (sales code 351 on 4CV39) 26 = Majestic Blue Metallic 11T = White vinyl top 10E = body built fifth week (E) of October (10) 1974 Option codes: A65 = Notch Back Bench Front Seat C09 = ROOF, VINYL PADDED, FULL TOP The VIN would look something like this: 4X39e5Hxxxxxx 4 = Buick V = Electra 225 Custom 39 = 4-door hardtop sedan e = letter indicating engine type (usually T for 455 V8 w/ single exhaust) 5 = 1975 model year H = built at Flint, MI xxxxxx = sequential number, range for Flint built B, C, and E body cars was 400001 to 562405 (based on your body number this should be between 400001 and 448000)
The "Fisher Body" plate does not carry the VIN of the car. The number you question is the "Body Sequence" number. The last six digits of the VIN can be located on the Engine ID stamping. Its location (standing in front of car) can be located on the left side of the front of the block. ( example: 45Hxxxxxx ). If it is the original motor in the car you will be able to establish the Vehicle Identification Number (4V39T5Hxxxxxx or (4V39J5Hxxxxxx). The Frame ID is located at the rear of the frame on the inside of the cross bar, usually on the Drivers side. The ID should be "AN" and also contain an ID part number possibly 367997 or something close to this, Manufacturing Date of the frame. Also sometimes stamped on the top of that rail is the VIN. I'm not sure if the VIN is stamped on the side rail on the left side beneath the door in '75 or not. If you need a pic for location let me know. Just a little info to possibly help in your search. :TU: David
Hey thanks for the replies as Ive printed this information out to help when I try and get this car back on the road. I also pulled the dash pad off and located a number that had been covered by the trimmer that was most likely involved with the RHD conversion and located code numbers 4V39T54441893. Im going to get the dash pad done better by a trimmer on top of having my carport pulled down and rebuilt to 12 meters (40ft) to accommodate these big units undercover.
That is your VIN. Be sure to make note of it. The digit after the "5" should be a "H". I'm sure you just mis-read it.
it maybe stamped on the rear of the frame by the outer portion of the frame driver side. called the frame horn ps ive got 75-76 buick parts if you need any
Thanks once again for your help and Im now gathering the appropriate information for the authorities to get the car on the roads. Yes your right I did misread the VIN it does have an H not a 4 and the engine looks the original with the number 45H441893.
