I have a 66 skylark convertible. White with red interior and black top. I've always wanted a white on black convertible. The car was too good of a deal to pass up. I need new upholstery, carpet and door panels. Other than that how difficult is it to do??
Thats not terrible!! I read somewhere that the red interior is a special order interior color. Any truth to this??
For a 66 red bench seat you may need to order the seat material from SMS and have your pattern reproduced locally. For door panels SMS may be your only hope with a 6 to 12 month wait.
A little late... Legendary Auto Interiors had a sale that ended Jan 13th... But if you are not in a big hurry, they have significant sales several times a year, but the cChristmas/ New Year's tends to be about the best. And I am quite certain that EVERYBODY will agree on Legendary's quality. I certainly do!!! https://www.legendaryautointeriors.com/
You want a black interior? That's gonna get HOT in the summer sun! A color change is going to require a lot of painting as well. And don't forget new seatbelts, sun visors, dash pad, and welting. It's a lot of work, which translates into lots of money if you're paying someone else for their labor. I like the red interior over the black. The 2 tone adds a lot of interest over plain ole black.
Ya, I've heard about the black melt your skin leather. I just really liked the look. The more I think about I may just stick with the red. The example above kinda won me over.....minus the head rest!!
