Chamber cc question

    That's a lot of milling .I'm going with custom pistons.since I have to use .827 pins anyway.just have the piston height a little taller.

    It sure is, I am suprised that it knocked off 13cc. Ill have to play around with pistons on the next round as unfortunatley I am fixing issues after the fact.

    Glad to hear that someone else out there did the same, I guess we will see how it goes. Although I am looking forward to getting the Thirsty Turtle back together and see what difference this adventure has made.

    Are the intake valves unshrouded? It looks a little tight by the gasket.1.92 valves? Looks good.

    The valves are the TA stainless 1.92, 1.55. looking at my original bill looks like the machine shop didn't do anything to the valves beside make sure they fit. Here are the bowls back when they machined it. Some gasket matching and smoothing is all I have done otherwise

    Hopefully try and install the heads this weekend and measure for new pushrods.

    Looks like a standard FelPro blue gasket. Is that what TA is selling?

    I was interested to see if there was a complete ring showing around the chamber after cutting that much off. Does not appear so. Do deburr the sharp edge so no hot spots cause detonation/pre-ignition.

    Its a fel pro gasket from TA, measured it at .044 thickness.

    Just those sharp edges around the combustion chamber mating surface? No problem, luckily I have loads of carbide bits left over from my home head porting failure.

    fel pros ussually measure .043 crushed. yea it looks like some blending could be done. that will help flow some.here is one of my heads ported by me.

    Nice,
    I have been debating whether or not I should take apart the head to clean the valves or if it would even be worth it. I guess while it was apart I could very gently smooth a few things out and not get crazy.

    Edit:
    Deleted question. I'm not going to take these heads any further apart then they already are. Just a clean up and smooth the sharp edges.

    Did they have the heads disassembled when you had them cut at the machine shop?

    Alright.. Last question then its all going back together..

    Measured for new pushrods.. came up with 9.600 (rounded .0013 up) using Gessler's measuring tool and instructions..

    My pushrods measure 5/16.. and TA has them for 3/8 and 5/16 for the 350.. what am I missing here fellas?

    Is it either or?

    Ah, just use a 2x4 of ya have to and get that thing back together!!! Hahaha (sorry for absolutely non-constructive input)

    3/8 is that ball size? Or shaft size. Ball size I think 3/8 is for 68-69 rocker/ lifter.is shaft size maybe for heavy spring pressure?

    Wish I knew that answer, but there is no part of my current pushrods that measure 3/8. Its 5/16 from the ball through the shaft. :Do No:

    I have KenneBell 3/8 pushrods in my 455 but I do have big lift-546/601 maxi 4 cam. They still are swedged down for standard size tips

    Update:

    Ended up with 9.6'' pushrods from TA and buttoned everything back up. Had no oil pressure on start up but ended up re-priming the pump with Vaseline and an old distributor shaft on a drill to get things moving. Along with that we re-shimmed the pump cover a bit tighter and gained few more psi at hot idle. In short the motor woke up and seems to be much happier, low end throttle response is way better then previously and dropping to passing gear really throws you back. I am crazy happy with how it turned out and looking forward for some 1/4 mile numbers to gauge the improvement.

    A brief non-scientific update here. I rode in the car yesterday for the first time since we worked on bumping the oil pressure and got it reassembled to the new and improved compression ratio. Taulb was not exaggerating when he said the engine "woke up"! The finely tuned butt-dyno showed a huge difference! RPMs climbed much more quickly, and before she'd light them up, but now the back end tries to outrun the front end and it gets squirrely far more than before. The engine was just all around more eager. Again, totally non scientific, but now it runs like we expected it to in the first place. Something to be said for getting your CR to match your cam!:3gears:

    Thanks for the scientific review Shawn! Its truly a different car, its no 455 but its a hell of a lot of fun to drive :3gears:

    Yeah, that was about as scientific as a Wile E Coyote cartoon, but hey, its all I had! But anytime you're down for some more testing, I'm in!
