I may be nuts, but I recall Year One advertising a cd changer that fit inside the spare tire. Anyone out there buy one, or recall the specifics on them? Are these still available, or am I just off my rocker?

That came from Custom Autosound through Year One. Check the Custom Autosound website to see if they still have it.

Even if it's not available, you can mount a CD changer just about ANYWHERE, anyway. If you want to put one in your trunk, I'll try to get pics of my '71 Skylark's trunk.

I put the CD changer at the TOP of the trunk (behind the back seat, right between the 6x9 Speakers on the Rear Deck), so no one even knows it's there. Pop in 6 of your favorite CD's, and you'll have HOURS of music, without having to pull over and change it!:Smarty: :bglasses: :TU:

I noticed you have a Convertible, which may be a little more tricky.:Do No:
I haven't messed with my Convertible too much, as it isn't as nice as the rest of my cars, so it kind of got "set aside". It still remains, though, that CD players are very versatile as to WHERE you can mount them, pretty much ANYWHERE. I'll give it some thought, and get back with you...:TU: :bglasses:

I always thought that the hole on either side the trunk between the trunk floor and the body panels would be a good spot for a cd changer.

also maybe on the vertical uprights that are on either side of the hinges.

The only drawback (or "fear") that I would have with installing stereo (or too many of ANY kind of "electrical" components) in a CONVERTIBLE (as I also have a '70 Skylark Convertible that I work on, weekly) is with fluid in the trunk. In other words, if the lines would have problems (and they do), there would be Transmission Fluid all over the inside of the trunk, and whatever happens to be IN there at the time. Even if RAIN water were to get inside the trunk (and it DOES, in Convertibles, easier than in Hardtops, for obvious reasons), the moisture would affect whatever type of electronics that you might have in there. My Convertible is just a "FUN" car. It's almost a waste to even have a stereo system in a CONVERTIBLE, in my opinion (since owning one), because there is so much "wind noise", anyway, especially with the top down. UNLESS you install the DUAL FRONT SPEAKERS in the DASH, you won't have very good sound out of the cars, either!:Smarty:

The things I DON'T like about the trunk CD players is that you have to open your trunk to CHANGE your CD's. It's just as easy, if you have an "indash" CD player, OR if you have a Cassette Player you can use a "Personal" CD player that plugs in your lighter and the Cassette deck, but you can CONTROL it from the Driver's seat!:Smarty: :bglasses: :TU: I also use that type in my "NON-Buicks", and it works GREAT for less than $30 for the CD players! If you have batteries in the CD player, you can even take it WITH YOU and listen to it!

Things get too technical here for me, sometimes.:Dou: :TU:
