OK I have Duane's date code book,Dove's Buick facts and figures book, old Motor's manual, and other buick books and I have found lots of info in each but I can't find where to ID casting numbers ie if i have a buick engine block with a xxxxxxxxx casting number where do I find a chart to tell me it is a 69 430 ci buick engine ect?Have I overlooked something or do I need another book of some sort?

The casting is on the back of the block as you probably know just post here and you will get an answer what it is.

I'm sure if I posted casting numbers here other members would help in a timely fashion but I need the book with that info ya'll are using so I can take it in the field to see if I can find what I need when on the spot.

Try this one "Ultimate American V-8 Engine Data Book" by Peter C. Sessler. it has most of the cast iron part casting#s but not the "soft stuff like carbs and distr. It appears pretty accurate. i found it on the shelf at Barnes and Noble for $20 bucks. it covers all makes

err, sometimes yes, sometimes no. but yeah, i don't know of any other books that even attempt a casting # list.

the Dove book does have some casting #'s listed on pgs 86-87 but it's not exhaustive by any means.
