the rear carb is close but still bigger than the .020 spec, the front carb is way out of adjustment.

would this cause the secondaries not to open at all?

with the motor fully warmed up and running, t-stat open and choke open the secondaries of neither the front or the rear carb open when using the throttle linkage to wide open.

Check the linkage on the driver's side. There is a moving linkage plate that catches a "dog" on the secondary shaft. If the plate doesn't drop down to clear the "dog" when the choke opens, the secondary shaft cannot rotate. This was to prevent the secondaries from opening before the engine was warmed up. Good luck, Frank.

The step on the fast idle cam also appears to be out of adjustment but the front carb doesnt have a choke or this lockout of the secondaries.

You can open the secondary throttle plates by pushing down on them with a screwdriver from the top so they are not binding but they do not open with the throttle linkage.

Greg: I think you are looking at the air valve above the secondary throttle plates. This is weighted, and opens only by moving air pulling it open, (not the linkage) and helps prevent "bogging" if throttle is rapidly opened. Let us know. Frank

    Greg,
It sounds to me like Frank might be right.
As you work the throttle lever by hand, watch what is happening on the passenger side of the carbs. There is a bent rod link that should be connected between the primaries and secondaries which pulls open the secondary throttle plates. If the link is there and working, then your secondaries should be opening. :TU:

the link is working i do remember that, I am looking at the air valve, soon as i get these carbs adjusted with the external adjustments listed in the service manual i should be hearing that sweet sound of 8 bbl's in full wide open song.
