Hi, I wuld like to buy a Carter AFB carb with the ID number 4453.
Please tell me if you have one, preferably one that functions (rebuilt or just well maintained)

    wheelz 'B' is for Buick.

How about a "K9A 4179S" AFB 1966 GS 401 RARE 4 speed carb? Not a bolt on, it definitely needs going thru. Been on a shelf for a while. Wheelz, Tampa Bay Florida USA

I have 2 rebuilt carters at the shop, but I do not know the numbers, 1 is for a 65, and the other is for a 62 or 63, I can check on them when I get back in town Thursday

Hi, I would be grateful if you would check the 65 carb, according to my "junkyard spotters guide" book it should be the same as the 66.

    Thanks :)

The correct # for a 66 Skylark GS is #4180. The #4179 is the 4 speed carb.
The 65 GS used a #3921 which was also used on most 401's in 1965.
    Here's an AFB ID chart:

Thanks. Nice list. But it looks like there are more Carter carbs that would fit my engine. Anyone knows if I can use one from a 65'er GS, I thought the engines were similar in 65 and 66. And are the carbs very different on a manual transmission versus an automatic?

It is not urgent, I have a carb that works, but it is not the original one, and the fuel mixture tends to be too rich due to the nozzles being to big.
So, only if the right carb. shows up, I will be interested.
Till then, I will try some other nozzles and a little help from my friends.

A 65-66 401 or 425 carb, as long as it is a Carter AFB, will work fine. Even the 4 speed carbs have the correct linkage for the automatic transmission linkage. The 4 speed and California emissions carbs have a different vacuum passage for the distributor advance..... you can use those too, it's not a significant change.

pulled the spare one out, the numbers are 3503, which is for a 63 401/425. It was completely restored to new. But wrong year, my apologies for taking so long to get the number

    Dan,

I paid right at $200 for it. So thats what I would need. It is a back up for the 63 I have, and push come to shove it could go on the 65.

Yes, it can be used but will have NO provisions for the kick-down as a DynaFlow equipped car is much different.

    Tom,

Your right, it was purchased initially for the 63. It would be a back up for the 65 if the carb ever needed rebuilding. Yep, the kickdowns are a complete different animal.
